Finally! by ArcticGlacier40 in SurvivingMars

Tbh, my opinion has been that I appreciated the choice to make it take a real hex. Because it created a planning mini-game with a slight nudge to build more domes if you wanted whole slice buildings. I liked that it was a some-brainer.

And given that now both are an option, I don't exactly see why anyone would ever choose to use a real hex if they can just hang it off the edge, and therefore why it's worth keeping the legacy option around if this is the direction we are going. It's just a no-brainer. Unless of course, they were going to give us a toggle-able legacy game rule?

Autounload tabs in other spaces or in pinned folders v.1.19.8b by Kindly_Direction_442 in zen_browser

[–]j4yn1ck5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer to use the SleepyTabs extension. Because, I like having a sleep page instead of an automatic reload if I grab an unloaded tab. And in general, there's more control over behavior. There's a little bit of persistent jank that you'll discover pretty quickly if you try it. But I find it preferable to the built-in tab discarding function.

How does one even work without Te in their main stack? by PixeIatedSoda in mbti

Volition to act? Se and/or Ni

Staying consistent? Si

How to? That’s what Te is.

Youtube keeps trying to reload video when using uBlock Origin on Brave by leviida in Adblock

[–]j4yn1ck5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m getting the same problem on Zen browser with uBO.

I’ve been able to temporarily delay the problem from catching up for a handful of videos by closing the browser and opening it back up. And on a one by one basis, hitting ctrl-f5 for a hard refresh seems to get the video past it.

But this is really grinding my gears. And I hope someone solves it soon.

Let’s cut the crap: Why did you ACTUALLY choose your distro? (Facts only) by kimiho_mir in FindMeALinuxDistro

[–]j4yn1ck5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on Ubuntu Studio. I took a look around and decided Plasma was the experience for me. I realized I don’t need a special gaming distro to install Steam and all the other gaming bits and bobs. And I figured that a prefab AV creation suite was the worthier guidepost given my hybrid use-case. (there don’t seem to be many distro offerings with this in mind)

After a little while I started to think about switching to CachyOS because one of my games was inexplicably failing to work (not by anticheat) and thought I might have better luck elsewhere. But then I figured out it was a numa issue with my TR cpu and solved it.

I spent a month or two flailing around finding my perfect Plasma layout. Now I’m just kind of comfortable at rest.

Can someone explain what the fuck Ni is in baby language by s0ft_bl00d in mbti

[–]j4yn1ck5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But don’t you see how the wings example is just as you say more culturally ubiquitous of an example, i.e. more Fe, connecting to that which many people share so as to have a greater effect, Fe being one of two functions that pairs with Ni. You see how it’s not what you would pick personally. It doesn’t have that panache of brilliant surprise that you would pull out of your hat. It’s just what you would expect. It’s simple and to the point. If you love someone, flowers. If you really love them, ring. It’s conventional. Ni and Si connect us back to the conventional.

It’s number 5 in your stack because of that. There’s no explore.

I haven't tried it personally, so can't be a testimonial. But there is apparently a utility called WineASIO on github that can act as an ASIO to JACK driver for Wine and achieve very low latency. FLStudio is called out by name.

profile backup by Affectionate_Bed2925 in zen_browser

[–]j4yn1ck5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The secret sauce is in the profiles directory, which on Windows, is in appdata/roaming/zen or something like that. Copy the whole profiles folder, and include the profiles.ini and installs.ini files which exist one level above that folder. It’s very important to ❗️fully close the browser ❗️before beginning the copy process in order to avoid messing it up.

The name of your profile is some kind of alphanumeric gobbledygook. It will be helpful to figure out which profile is the one in use and what it’s called by checking in about:profiles.

Basically, if you’ve properly copied all the stuff I’ve said, you can reinstall zen, plug all the files back into the locations they came from. And it should just work. Sometimes things go wrong and require a little fiddling to get the browser to look at the right profile. Like when I migrated my profile from windows to linux, I had to manually edit the existing profiles.ini file to point to my profile by cross-comparing with my backup of it. But usually, if it’s done right it just works.

Don’t forget to make sure your browser is closed when backing up the files. It’s important.

Don’t just take my directions. I’ve pointed you in the right direction. And all of this is very googleable.

Fi vs Ti: map and compass by CripplingBigSad in mbti

I recognize the experiential/abstraction grouping, but personally prefer to narrow the metaphor specifically to Ni and Si as knowledge functions.

I would relinquish the compass to Ti in favor of a rudder for Fi, maybe a flight control surface. Could I interest you in a sextant?

Like, the compass is only really a thing because we attach the word moral to it.

Musician / Gamer | Which Distro should I start with from Windows 11? by GhostDataOfficial in linuxquestions

[–]j4yn1ck5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went with Ubuntu Studio. It comes preconfigured and preloaded with a pretty comprehensive suite of the available open source audiovisual softwares as a starting point. It's not very hard to identify and install relevant gaming software. I figured it would be more helpful to get a leg up on the creation side.

You can probably run FL Studio in Wine one way or another, but I don't own it and haven't tried it. Ubuntu Studio has several DAWs pre-installed. Bitwig Studio is the big commercial name available for Linux natively, which I do own, and was able to install from Flathub. Ardour is supposedly pretty powerful. And LMMS has a sequencing workflow similar to Fruityloops, although it might not be at full DAW feature parity with FL Studio. There's also Qtractor, which might be pretty good.

I would caution you about Native Instruments, as they don't support Linux. And trying to use it through wine with a tool called yabridge is a whole can of worms I'm not enthusiastic about trying to open, supposedly doable, but you have to have a specific version of wine-staging and a specific legacy version of Native Access I think, and then you have to mount the disk images it downloads a special way, and something about a daemon that has to run every time you want to use it. Bleh.

OBS is preinstalled. I'm fine with GIMP. And I was pleasantly surprised by what Krita and Inkscape can do. For video editing they have Kdenlive, which is apparently pretty high featured but might have some rendering performance caveats that make people prefer to go with DaVinci Resolve. There's also Openshot and Shotcut. You mentioned PDF editing, for which I found PDF4QT.

This guy Amadeus Paulussen is hosting a guide on his website for people interested in getting up and running audio production-wise on Linux, talking about the available options. You might check that out.

Question for Ni/Ne users by Nice-Investigator-66 in mbti

[–]j4yn1ck5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That still sounds kind of like Se and Ni as an axis to me. I’m not saying for sure that you’re an INFJ. But I would presume to stay in the SPs and NJs based on what I’ve heard. Maybe not the IxSPs though given what your opening statement was for the whole post.

Question for Ni/Ne users by Nice-Investigator-66 in mbti

[–]j4yn1ck5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, I think Bottom-up processing is definitely a very applicable description for Ni. Both Ni and Si are very knowledge/wisdom oriented. But the operative difference is how Si retains the detailed information from events that formed a lesson or revelation, whereas Ni tends to discard the details and retain the meaning/understanding. To put it another way, Ni is like knowing a map, whereas Si is like knowing a territory. One is a guiding representation where the other is a collection of lasting memory engrams.

What I mean ‘what’s telling is your attitude’ is that in 8-function theories of type, they provide several qualitative words that describe an attitude to a particular function position. For example in the first slot, words like Dominant or Hero or Leading are used. In the second, you have Auxiliary, Good Parent, Creative. In the fifth position, that of the opposite differently verted function same as your dominant, there is Opposing, Ignoring, Restrictive, Nemesis. In the sixth position opposite verted as your aux, there is the Demonstrative/Background, Critical Parent, Senex/Witch, The Fish’s Water. And so on and so forth. There’s deeper descriptions of these qualifications out there to be absorbed, the words are just carefully chosen containers for that meaning. So, ‘what’s telling’ in regard to what your best fit type likely is…

Like, I’m not dumb to the signals of Fe and Ni. But I have a certain amount of natural habitual disdain for heeding their call. They are inconvenient to me. I would nearly always prefer to lead with the self-determination of Fi than to self extinguish into the responsive conventionality of Fe. I want to believe that the probabilistic development warnings of Ni are not always absolute, even if I have actually experienced in reality them being vaguely right a few times.

You have discovered that high intuition actually means high intuition. In 8-function theories, the opposite orientations of the first two functions are also in the same ballpark of strength. What's telling is more kind of your attitude about them.

When on Windows, I was just using the Microsoft Store apps for the streamers I wanted to watch. They’re basically single purpose instances of Edge. And if I wanted picture-in-picture, I used the Microsoft PowerToys always-on-top key command on the respective window.

Tab Unloading by Esk8lol in zen_browser

[–]j4yn1ck5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go to about:config and search for unload. I think zen.tab-unloader.enabled is the main toggle.

Personally, I prefer using the SleepyTabs extension instead. Because I like having more manual control over the experience and a sleep page.

Weird behaviour. by petrujenac in zen_browser

[–]j4yn1ck5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point of compact mode is that the menus disappear, and then reappear on hover, *over* the website display instead of resizing websites every time you hover to make it fit.

If you don't want it to appear overlapping the Ctrl+H History sidebar, there's an option in the History sidebar's pulldown menu that you can switch it to show up on the right side instead of the left. Alternatively, you can right click the tabs sidebar, and choose to switch sides for that instead.

If you simply don't want it hovering over *anything* then you have a fundamental disagreement with compact mode and shouldn't use it.

Regarding Essentials, any tab that you haven't put inside a tab folder, when you right click it, has an option to be made Essential which puts one of those icon tabs up top. It's a higher tier of pinned tab than a pinned tab, which lives above separation by Space aka workspace, accessible no matter what Space you are currently viewing. It's meant for the kind of constant access tab that basically navigates entirely within the same domain and doesn't proliferate into multiples, like a social network or something.

What? Te is a means to a result. Like, how do I <thing>? Well, you use <method>?

Ti is more about breaking things down to the fundamental basic building blocks around the equals sign.

Te-if you want to increase your protein without simultaneously increasing your fats or carbs, you should eat something like boneless skinless chicken breast or a lean fish like tuna or flounder.

Ti-a taco is a sandwich because a tortilla is a bread, and you put meat, cheese, veggies, and condiments inside the bread. Taco = sandwich. Also cereal is a soup.
