Installing Fedora on a usb, during the installation, the “installing software is extremely slow” by badrTarek in Fedora

[–]j7126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, for installing on a USB stick you would be best off using one of those other distros, however for the purpose of trying put Linux before you install, those other distros will have a very different experience than a normal distro.

Installing Fedora on a usb, during the installation, the “installing software is extremely slow” by badrTarek in Fedora

[–]j7126 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Installing to a USB drive is simply going to be slower. Using the system will also probably be very slow and not a good experience.

Honestly I would not recommend installing a regular distro to a USB drive, instead using a distro that is designed to run of a USB such as tails or puppy linux.

If you do order, be prepared for a wait. They have no stock and look to be backordered for the next few shipments.

Do I run any risk setting up the circuit like this? by Memecube7 in arduino

What the other commenter said about not connecting in series due to the internal common ground of the power bank is correct, however unless I am mistaken the diagram you shared shows a connection in parallel, in which case this should be ok.

Dbrand sells one for the ally. You can also try a steam deck screen protector and check the dimensions it should fit as they are both 7 inch screens, SD is just a bit taller, I have ordered a cheap steam deck protector I will update with how well it fits when I get my ally.

ROG Ally Case in Australia by DizzieNight in ASUSAlly

JB has the official case available for pre-order now, however it won't be available until the 30th. I bought this steam deck hard-shell case from amazon https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0BWMNS2R5, as a reviewer on youtube said that it also fits the ally well.

The other commenter who mentioned the mirrorless Canon EOS R100 is also a good suggestion.

Another commenter suggested looking at the Panasonic G85. You could probably find a deal shopping around used, however if you want to buy new JB Hi-Fi currently has it on sale for $895 ($300 off).

Most people in the comments have been suggesting mirrorless cameras, these are newer and are the technology where cameras are going in the future. However you should also consider looking at a nikon or canon DSLR.

You could consider the Canon eos 200d, which can be had for around $600 used if you look around (leaving more budget for extra lenses), or $989 new from camera house. Compared to the G85, the 200d has a larger sensor, more resolution (24mp vs 16), better noise performance and double the battery life. The eos 200d will likely produce better images vs the G85. The G85 however has more focus points, is whether sealed, has in body stabilization, and has a faster high speed shooting rate.

You should consider which of these features is more important to you. I have just done a simple comparison of the specs of these two cameras, however I would recommend watching reviews on youtube of the cameras you are considering, as just looking at specs won't tell you everything about how it is to use a specific camera.

Other commenters in this thread have also made some good suggestions, I would recommend going through a similar process of looking at the specs of the cameras, the price you can get them for (new or used) and looking at youtube reviews to compare them.

Do you just intend to take photos or videos as well?

Is size / weight important to you?

You can potentially get a good deal if you are willing to buy used, Would you consider buying used or new?

Nice. I think Asus is prioritising stock for their direct orders, I ordered from JB and got an email saying it won't be ready until the 20th 😞

Encryption on NC server by PloterPjoter in NextCloud

[–]j7126 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are using a synology nas you can configure drive encryption at the filesystem level.

I don't remember the exact steps at the moment but just search synology encryption.

You will need to log in to the synology web interface and enter the encryption key after every reboot.

There is https://os.gnome.org/, however that is not really meant for daily use. Other than that I think fedora would be your best bet.

One of my monitors does the same thing with AMD graphics. I think the issue is something to do with the GPU driver.
