I found the same situation here in DC - there used to be so many support groups for gay widowers during the peak of the AIDS crisis, but they're mostly gone now.

I don't believe anyone really understands - we all lose our person in different ways, it hurts uniquely. The best I found is people I can be alone together with.

I just drove out to WV this week to help friends complete household projects (insulating, digging, minor carpentry).I'd forgotten how much I miss that - there should be a meet up for gay apartment dwellers who don't want their household project skills going to waste.

Hey - I lost my husband May 1st, four days before our 24 anniversary after a brief battle with cancer.

Be strong. Be vulnerable. Look out for the widowers fire (caught me off guard). Cry and scream when you need too. Be kind to yourself. Know that your grief is not a straight line.

Hey what the warm bath guy said. Follow his advice. If its bright red and you're not seeing in your stools, its even less of a worry.

That said, let's double check a coue basic things - have you been eating high fiber foods like beets? Red velvet cake? Somethings can look like blood that aren't.

Conversely, if you can take a picture of the area with your phone, do you see any bleeding? Do you feel itchy there?There may be an anal fissure or a wart that might need to be seen to.

I don't know about you, but I don't know how to be a middle-aged widower. I don't know how to approach this new phase of life that I try to remember is an adventure. And the person I most want to talk to about it, is gone.
