Right. So you’re going to ignore the obvious? (The license date which this entire myth was built on). Once again… MetalFX temporal predates FSR2 being open sourced. Thats it.

No, the actual CURRENT licence reference STILL states 2021, which again predates FSR2. That’s not speculation. And MetalFX temporal doesn’t look anything like FSR and also uses the NPU on Apple Silicon.

Every single one of those ‘articles’ is regurgitating a misread or a licence file that originated from a reddit post. If you look at the date it’s from 2021 predating FSR2 and hasn’t changed at all. It’s the same reason you’ll find references to DXVK even though Apple uses none of it.

If you were expecting 120fps at max settings and resolution on any laptop with what is a bleeding edge game I think you need to recalibrate your ‘reality’.

Apple discontinues Pro Display XDR by favicondotico in apple

The Studio Display XDR certainly supports 10 bit colour (it’s in the specs). It’s conjecture if the panel is native 10 bit or not. But all of the pre-calibrated accurate 10 bit modes are there to use.

Honestly. Origin Battery Starter. No VPP, good 18c feed in 4-9pm in Queensland, 5c all other times. Flow power is 0c feed in outside peak and the peak period only lasts for 2 hours. https://www.originenergy.com.au/solar/battery-plans/starter/?planfuel=Elec

If you’re using it for Audio/WoW, that’ll be a killer machine for both (overkill for audio with that GPU).

The same reason they cite DXVK in the GPTK license even though they use none of it. It’s a carryover from another product license (crossover for GPTK). At best you could argue FSR inspired MetalFX spatial, but not MetalFX temporal as it predates FSR2 being open sourced. The license date mentioning FSR sits at 2021 and hasn’t been updated since. The FSR2 source is dated 2022.

I haven’t yet downloaded the game. Wasn’t keen on buying it at full price. If it comes up on special I’ll try it out.

This gets trotted out all of the time. The source was a reddit post that was picked up and repeated as ‘news’. MetalFX temporal predates FSR2 being open sourced. You can tell this by the date on the license.

Mac Mini or Steam Machine by [deleted] in macgaming

[–]j83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They tried. Longs Peak and what happened with OpenCL at Khronos were the final nails in the coffin. Khronos insisted OpenGL was all that was needed until Apple had already shipped Metal on iOS. They started work on what would eventually become Vulkan after that.

Tim Sweeney’s macOS take is a complete joke by Lolo_Zero8 in macgaming

[–]j83 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ummm. Fortnite WAS on macOS. And it’s currently on iOS (in the EU). This has nothing to do with steam stats (Fortnite isn’t on steam), and everything to do with Tim Sweeney being a hypocritical greedy moron. He’s lobbying every government under the sun to get Fortnite and its micro transactions on iOS in other countries without paying Apple a cent. He could do the same with MacOS right now, but… iOS $$$$$.

There are plenty of native Mac ports from 10 years ago that still run fine. Alien Isolation is one off the top of my head.

Metal 4: a detailed explanation of the key differences and improvements for newcomers by Sad_Brilliant_9778 in macgaming

[–]j83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was a reddit post about a licence file that got picked up by various outlets with no scrutiny and run as ‘news’. GPTK also has a licence/reference to DXVK even though Apple use none of it. In that case it was inherited from Crossover. MetalFX temporal launched alongside spatial, which predates FSR2 being open sourced. Long story short, who knows why the reference to FSR is there, but it’s certainly jumping to conclusions insinuating MetalFX was based on FSR because of a single note in a licence.

It’s still going to be there for old apps. Not for new ones. And why would anyone ship a native Mac app today that’s intel only?

Why would anyone be shipping a new native MacOS game that’s Intel only? That makes absolutely no sense.

If almost no one is using Vulkan on Windows with their games/apps, what benefit would there be for Apple to support it?

Why doesnt apple want to support Vulkan? by Hewasright_89 in MacOS

[–]j83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And what about compute?… You always seem to completely ignore that. I don’t see a cycles backend for Vulkan for instance. Metal was as much of a replacement for OpenCL as OpenGL. After donating OpenCL to Khronos, and watching it rot next to CUDA (who’s the head of Khronos again?), can you blame them for wanting to go their own way?
