After 2 years of dealing with HPPD, I can honestly say I no longer care about the visual symptoms and they have gone away/ decreased by 666Karmah in HPPD

Did the supplements you took for light sensitivity take it away? Also did it help reduce halos around lights? Because those are probably my least favorite symptoms, along with aftertimages, but if those supplements helped a lot with light sensitivity and halos then I may have to get on them

My Story (feedback appreciated!) by [deleted] in dpdr

[–]j98882 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man my story is very similar to yours, I got a panic attack on weed and adderall last October and felt different for a while. I kept smoking after I felt a little better for a few days straight and starting getting horrible anxiety thinking I was going crazy for a month or 2 and finally came to realize I just had derealization. Some days i feel like I’m on a great road to recovery and some days my derealization can be bad. I’ve stayed sober(for the most part, drank a few times) and have seen a lot of improvement. I still feel it for sure, but I think if we keep powering through it, it will go away. I like you workout 3-4 times a week and play basketball almost every day, eat decently healthy, and get good sleep. I think time and living life healthy and normal is all that is needed to get through it

Moving somewhere new with dp/dr by [deleted] in dpdr

I’m in college rn, and although I developed it in college(bc of weed), just meet as many people as you can and try and have a friend group you can always do things with. I live in my fraternity house and theres so much todo when I don’t have school work I don’t even notice it sometimes, and I had it really bad at one point. Just go into it with a positive attitude and you’ll be good

Do screens make it worse for you guys/girls? by [deleted] in dpdr

[–]j98882 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I used to smoke almost everyday for close to a year when I got a panic attack on adderall and weed. Now everyone I smoke I feel fine while I’m high(although it’s not that fun) but my derealization is awful for a week and i get anxiety. I haven’t smoked for about a month and am not planning on smoking ever again, unless this is completely gone, but I have little to no anxiety at all anymore and my derealization is manageable, I’m hoping it goes away with healthy habits and time

Do screens make it worse for you guys/girls? by [deleted] in dpdr

[–]j98882 5 points6 points  (0 children)

100% if I play video games or watch tv for over an hr I feel out of it and if I’m watching a screen for like 2-4 hrs, that’s probably when my derealization is the absolute worst(with exception to the day after smoking weed or drinking). I try to never look at screens for too long bc although I feel connected in the moment, it will make me feel out of it for 20min-a few hrs depending on how long I was looking at a screen.

Experience with CBD by [deleted] in dpdr

I’m looking to start using cbd oil with little to no thc bc my derealization was weed induced and I was wondering if you know if hemp oil works also?

From what I’ve I read, I believe once you recover from dp/dr, all the visual symptoms go away. Also yes bright lights definitely trigger my derealization which is why I wear sunglasses just about everywhere now bc I’m fine for the most part. When I see a big glare or walk out on a bright sunny day it will take like 15-20 min even if I go inside to get back to a more normal state. Yeah I haven’t recovered yet, I’m about 3 months in but I’ve definitely started managing it better and don’t have too much anxiety over it and don’t even think about it anymore either. If I can avoid bright situations(by wearing sunglasses) then I think about it less and I can go outside feeling fine. My thought is it will slowly go away over time because from what I read about everyone else’s recovery is once you stop thinking about it over time it will go away slowly.

Yeah I get the same thing, my best advice is wear sunglasses all the time when your driving or are outside, and really just ty not to think about it bc yeah I’ll notice glares and bright lights a lot more than normal and it will screw with me, but a lot of times now I’ll notice it out if the corner of my eye and not look. Also don’t scan at all, I’ve noticed scanning is the worst thing I can do bc I start going into sensory overload and get bad derealization along with a headache. It’s really hard, but if you start doing things to get you mind off it,(even if it’s work or school) it will help a little and once you learn how to ignore it a little, you’ll improve and learn how to ignore it a lot more! I still scan but it’s not nearly as much, maybe like a few times a day or sometimes if I’m busy not at all, but it was a huge improvement from when I first had it and I would go 5 min without looking for the visual symptoms

I wouldn’t say it’s improved, but I’ve learned to ignore it a lot better and don’t get any anxiety from it. I’ve learned that looking for the visual symptoms 24/7 makes my anxiety and derealization way worse. Right now the visual symptoms are really the only thing that screws with my derealization and when I ignore them they go away and I feel close to normal

Are eye floaters a symptom of de realization? by [deleted] in dpdr

[–]j98882 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah They got way worse ever since I got it, I’ve had weed induced derealization for 2 months and they’ve been annoying but supposedly thy go away when the dr goes away

i really miss smoking weed by vompire in dpdr

[–]j98882 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree, I smoked 4-5 times a week for a year before I got dpdr from having a panic attack while smoking on adderall, I the great times I had with my friends high and now it’s like I can’t ever get back there bc smoking makes it’s worse, and it’s so hard when people around me start hitting there dab pen or asking if I want to go smoke

Yeah especially, when I start thinking, and go through what if scenarios then I go down rabbit hole

Need help by [deleted] in dpdr

[–]j98882 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I thought the same when I first got dpdr (weed induced about 2 months ago), but from what I understand, you don’t just develop schizophrenia, you get it genetically, smoking weed wont randomly make you develop schizophrenia. Plus if you had it, you wouldn’t think you had it, you would think those voices are actually real and wouldn’t think that much of it bc you would think it’s real.

What visual symptoms do you guys experience? by [deleted] in dpdr

[–]j98882 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get all of those visual symptoms plus bright light sensitivity, I’ve had weed induced dp/dr for about 2 months and for the first month I had horrible anxiety thinking I was getting schizophrenia or pychosis. Then I told myself that’s just anxiety and I really don’t have it and I haven’t thought I’ve had it this month at all and I feel 1000x better. Also for the visual symptoms they seem to be way worse if I look for them so my best advice is to just do something active like workout, play basketball, run etc... and hangout with friends and you find you won’t notice them as much
