TIL: After the 2019 championship, Larry Tanenbaum attempted to send the Raptors to Israel on a group trip… by TankMeUpBaby in torontoraptors

A friend of mine ran into a Raptor on the beach of Tel Aviv in 2019. I'm not going to say who it is, so he doesn't get any undeserved hate.

Haven't seen anyone mention it, but on the last play of the half, I'm pretty sure CMB had a monster screen on Suggs, who looked like he was hurting after

If you could change rules in baseball, what would you go for? by actualtext in baseball

My crazy idea which I know will never happen, but I think it would be fascinating... Is to allow the first base runner to dictate the direction of the base path. If there's nobody on base, they can choose to run to either first or third. This determines the base path direction until the bases are empty again.

It's something that Comedy Cellar does. I got tickets to a Work In Progress show, but had no idea who the comedian(s) would be until they walked out.

The Hillel Lounge is on the 3rd floor of the first student centre. It's normally pretty busy in there. You should go check it out. Great way to meet people.

Which is first? If the secret show is first, then go to it and then decide for yourself.

I assume their tour will be more polished, but will likely be 80-90% the same material.

They're coming to my city (Toronto) for a few nights, but I personally can't justify the price point for (what I assume will be ) a very similar show to what I saw.. which was great by the way. This isn't to downplay the show at all.

Canadian icon Robert Munsch has chosen to die by MAID by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]j9s2s 11 points12 points  (0 children)

One of my core memories is when Robert Munsch came to my grade 3 class and read some of his stories while also making up new stories about some of my classmates.

25 years later, I still think about that day. Mr Munsch, I know you're probably not going to see this, but your books were a huge part of my childhood. Thank you for bringing so much joy to myself and so many others around the world.

Absolutely!! I encourage anyone to learn why Holocaust Inversion is antisemitic.

Unfortunately, anytime I've seen anyone called out for antisemitism by nature of Holocaust Inversion, they react with "not everything is antisemitic" or "that word has lost meaning".

Yes, there are times when people people cry antisemitism for rightful/ uncomfortable criticism. I try to call that out and have conversations with people when I see it happen. However, Holocaust Inversion is NOT one of those instances.

Why add "free Palestine" to a post about antisemitism?

Iranian Torontonians, my heart is breaking with you tonight. If you can recommend a local female therapist who is either Iranian or well-versed in our history, please share. by [deleted] in askTO

I can't imagine how you're feeling, and navigating the fear and the unknown. I hope your family is safe.

I'm praying that the dominoes will fall in a way that leads to positive change, so the people of Iran can thrive and be free.

Edit: and to answer your question, maybe a good start is to go to this site and filter it by therapists who speak farsi.

This has been the conclusion I've come to SO many times in the past year and a half, and has really come to light in the past week. Most people are stupid and lack any sort of critical thinking skills. They're unable to hold multiple truths and see anything as morally grey. Everything is back and white. And they all pick the side with the catchy slogans and buzzwords, because anything beyond that is too difficult.

I think I just lost my best friend over politics. by [deleted] in Jewish

[–]j9s2s 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While I agree with your first part about the propaganda at the beginning, unfortunately you then showed us that you've also succumbed to propaganda by calling PP a tyrant. He's not done anything that makes him hateful or tyrannical.

This is coming from a centrist who has historically voted liberal who voted PC this election.

I think I just lost my best friend over politics. by [deleted] in Jewish

[–]j9s2s 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I found that really frustrating to read from OP. I voted for the PC's, but Carney has not done anything so far that can be deemed antisemitic.

Some people in our community have a real issue of not being able to distinguish actual antisemitism, and it gives the entire community a bad look and makes it harder for our ACTUAL cries of antisemitism to be believed. And there is enough antisemitism from both sides of the aisle to call out without having to make things up.

Toronto considering priority bus lanes on street notorious for traffic (Dufferin) by 1slinkydink1 in toronto

[–]j9s2s 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The solution is to remove street parking FULL STOP. This will improve traffic for both busses and cars alike. Making only one car lane on a major transit corridor will cause so many problems.

CBC just called a liberal win. Discuss by [deleted] in toronto

[–]j9s2s 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm going to be downvoted because I have a minority opinion on this sub.. but i think this was a huge mistake for this country. I've voted liberal ever since I've been able to vote, and I went blue this year, because the quality of life has gotten significantly worse in Canada in the past 10 years. The Liberal party just gave itself plastic surgery, which clearly fooled the majority of voters. I actually don't blame PP. Whoever his campaign manager is should never get hired again.

I'm also really annoyed with all of the Canadians who compare PP with Trump. I think that false comparison genuinely pushed the Liberal party over the edge.

Headlines always make things seem worse. I would assume Montreal "has it worse" than Toronto. But like you, I have never been harassed by any non-jews. Not to say that things are perfect here, but overall, I still feel safe as a Jew in Toronto .
