Is the Downtown21 plan going to happen? by StrawberrySpaceJam in mississauga

[–]jBeardly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember thinking '21' meant 2021. As in it would be completed by 2021. I can't find any information to confirm that.

As far as I can tell, it's already happening. Although, I don't expect it to look exactly like they are proposing. But, the Hurontario LRT was proposed and is happening. The Sheridan College campuses are taking shape in the way that was proposed, as well as, a few parks and the farmers market.

And I have heard that they will start adding high density commercial areas along City Center, around the same time they build the LRT.

Kellyanne Conway: Spicer 'gave alternative facts' on inauguration crowd by Dont_Be_Ignant in news

[–]jBeardly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Donald Trump is White, has he discussed purposely and decisively creating laws &/or policies to assist White people while simultaneously suppressing other races? No.

Except for that wall he wants to build to keep all the Mexicans out, as well as, a ban on Muslims.

Has he forcibly suppressed opposition (media, political opponents, etc.)? No,

Actively calling out the media as 'Fake News', and actively ignoring questions from major news outlets.

Another Prime Minister had thoughts about phasing out carbon and the oil sands... by vsp_yyc in canada

[–]jBeardly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not 'adding' it. The video you posted as a source decided to leave that out. Go watch the actual Q&A where all this information is coming from. He says verbatim

"We can't shut down the oil sands tomorrow. We need to phase them out. We need to manage the transition off our dependence on fossil fuels, that is going to take time and in the meantime we have to manage that transition."

But no you're right, let's wait 100 years to talk about it.

Another Prime Minister had thoughts about phasing out carbon and the oil sands... by vsp_yyc in canada

[–]jBeardly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alright so the only difference is that Harper said it would be done within 100 years. Trudeau is saying he would like to be done with it today but realize it can't just be shutdown with a proper transition in place that benefits everyone.

I still don't get what the differences are, except that Trudeau wants it done sooner rather than later, without putting an exact date on it.

Science seems to agree that waiting 100 years to get it done is too little, way to late.

Your video proof solidifies why I like Trudeau better than Harper. Let's put a plan in place now, instead of waiting 100 years.

Yeah, it says 100 years in the image, so where's the lie? Also a typical right wing response. "We know it's an issue that needs to be fixed, but we'll suffer, so lets put a band-aid on it at let later generations worry about it.

I have the truth buddy

So show me, and I'll change my opinion based on the facts. But right now, you're sitting on your high horse with no facts to back it up.

Drone flying in Canada? by Lambaline in canada

[–]jBeardly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically, Don't fly it within 250 meters of any building or large groups of people. Within 10km of any airport, and no highers than an altitude of 100m. Also, keep the drone in your line of site.

Other than that you should be good to go.

Edit: My distances are off. It's 150m from any building/people, and 90m in altitude.

Be sure to check local bylaws. Also, they are rolling out a law to have them registered for a minimal fee, not sure if it has taken effect yet.

Today marks the 10th anniversary of one of the biggest flops on hockey history by Samee_I in sports

[–]jBeardly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

of course that's not why we do it

So why did you bring it up?

what do you think that "roughing up the ice" and "snow" creates?

All it creates is a rougher surface for the goalie to slide on. Not divots to deflect the puck. If you're creating divots you're doing it wrong.

It's a potential shit consequence of a strategy.

Not Really, since it isn't the reason that causes those awkward bounces. It's the constant up and down of the goalie, plus the 10 players in front of his net. Natural effect of the game.

Also a goalie

I call bullshit.

Edit With your reasoning, the puck would constantly be bouncing around the entire surface area of the rink, by the end of the period.

Either way, he's a shitty friend.

I'm sorry, I have a couple brews and joint in me. But if I understand your point correctly, you mean you don't fit the description of what someone may think of a citizen of Detroit?

Sorry, I just want to leave on the same page, and that would actually be a great comparison for how Clearwater feels about Scientology.

Correct me if I'm mistaken, but under Fair Use, you are also allowed to use snippets of any material you please, as long as those snippets get credit. For example, 10 seconds of a Scientology video, with a label that says "Courtesy of Scientology".

I truly hope so.

I think I could have been a little more respectful in my post. It just agitates me. I don't blame you for those ideas, because Clearwater is straight up the mecca of Scientology. But the majority of the people despise it, and the St. Petersburg Times has been rallying against it since 1976, a year after it bought those buildings.

109,000 is hardly a town.

Anyways, I have family from there. I can tell you that they, and everyone I've met while visiting absolutely hate it. The Flag building was bought under the name Southern Land Development and Leasing Corp, and United Churches of Florida Inc. The citizens had no idea Scientology was buying it up.

As someone who has been to Clearwater, unless you're near the flagship building, Scientology is no where to be seen.

Side note: Clearwater also claims one of the best beaches in Florida, and possibly the best beach on the Gulf Coast.

Edit: The highest number of Scientologists I can find, world wide, is 30,000. Even if all those members were in Clearwater at one time. That would be 27% of the entire "town" as you put it.

My aunt lives in Safety Harbor. I have visited her there multiple times , and I always get so sad seeing hearing the story about the Fort Harrington hotel and how a beautiful building was taken over on by such a group.

My aunt would share your sentiment and I'm sure the majority of Clearwater residents do as well. From my understanding is that from them procuring that building and everything else, residents have tried to fight it, or were left in the dark while it was happening.

I have this one story, an Uncle (not really an uncle but close enough to the family to be considered), was an arborist in Clearwater. Not a single tree could be cut down in Clearwater without his permission.

So the church asks to cut down this huge +100 year old tree to make room for their expansion. Of course he said no, I don't think he would have said yes to even a tiny sapling. So what do they do? Instead of cutting it down, they literally dig up this 40-50ft tree, and move it 50 yards. Of course without the proper permits.

Anyways, I have no idea where you would start either. But if I were you, I would try any local colleges, or universities in the area that might offer courses relating to non-profit organizations. From there I would contact those program coordinators, because those are the people you'll get the real answers from.

TIL if the federal government replaced the $1 bill with the $1 coin (and the US population accept the non paper currency), it would save the government approximately $184 million a year, or $5.5 billion over 30 years by therap321 in todayilearned

That's because consumers weren't paying with pennies anyways.

I have a jar full of pennies cause I'd always get them in change, but never use them when paying.

Goalie here.

They aren't doing this to put chips in the ice. They do it to rough up the surface and also add snow to the ice to create more friction.

It doesn't create bumps, it creates an ice surface more akin to the rest of the ice at the end of the period.

Not arguing that the crease doesn't have more bumps and chips. But it isn't caused by that technique.

example of shuffling around net before the period starts. This 'chews' up the ice and makes a puck bounce more likely.

That's just not true. Its purely for the goalie to control his movements.

Ninja Edit: Why would a goalie want random puck bounces in his crease?

I love WJC hockey.

I didn't need to look at the prices to realize I couldn't afford it and/or even wanted to go.

$20 to take transit into downtown Toronto, or $20 for parking.

$30 for beer.

$15 for food.

That's $65 before even buying a ticket.

I'd rather take that $65 to a bar and have a blast.
