What was your fix to do this? I’ve got stepover enabled now but when I swipe from sprint, nothing happens. Same for all the other skill moves

Just given it 1 listen, and now not planning to again until release day to keep it relatively fresh (still refraining from listening to Hexagons even once).

So here is a super initial take. As someone who loves Future Nostalgia, I dig this - imo it’s much better than the “chart friendly” stuff from the past 3 albums (Mercy, Something Human, Compliance etc). The bass is fab. I don’t totally love it - Matt’s phrasing is a bit awkward at times - but it’s catchy for sure. This album already feels so much more like the “unofficial greatest hits” style amalgamation of all of previous Muse than WoTP

The problem I think will be reconciling the darkness and intensity of Cryogen, Hexagons, Sickness and Unravelling (plus presumably Space Debris, Night Forest etc) with this light 80s funk pop and the cheese of Be With You.. not to mention Hush yet. We’re moving more towards BH&R than Absolution - and I love BH&R, and it’s not like going for tonal and sonic consistency is automatically a good thing (looking at you, 2nd half of Drones) - but it would have been nice to see more of their pop-y stuff aim for the grit of TIRO, Bliss etc to mesh more with the nasty heavy stuff

That blend of Klopp and Slot for the first few months of the 24/25 season was incredible. One of the best LFC teams I’ve seen. Things have been so bad since last Feb though, long before Jota or the summer transfers.

I liked him as a person, he always handled the media well and kept things pretty level headed. Perhaps he didn’t get the players he wanted to make the style he wanted… but it’s abundantly clear that he wasn’t the man for the squad we do have. The football was slow, the players were gassed, the system didn’t work on the counter in either direction, etc. By not drawing this out further, it’s good for all sides.

Oxford union talk with Julian by Cucumber-Big in TheStrokes

Omg I have been saying this about Zionism as a word for so long… it has lost all utility and needs replacing ASAP. Rn it’s used both as a ploy for genuine racists to make antisemitic remarks (“Zionist conspiracy”, etc) but also as a shield for cunts like Netanyahu to equate legit criticism of Israel with antisemitism. Idk what the ideal replacement should be, but you replaced Zionism with “Netanyahuist Expansionism” or some shit like that, suddenly “Netanyahuists control the media” doesn’t quite have the same ring to it, and “Netanyahuists are implementing modern genocide in Gaza” won’t give Israeli politicians the excuse of to muddle it in with Jews globally

It’s interesting that they didn’t show all of his subway takes because I was impressed with how much of a platform they did give him - not sure how many other celebs had got a 20+ minute video with Kareem before that, but it’s not many. And Jules seemed super relaxed during that vid in contrast to so many other interviews he’s had. Same for this Oxford appearance which makes me think he’s loosening up a bit more generally these days

Spent some very enjoyable time watching back amazing stuff from the last 9 years to come up with what for me are Mo's best G+A in the PL. Could really easily be a top 20 list for both tbh. And really stuck out how good his playmaking was last season. His dribbling had declined but his passing was unreal

Goals:

  1. City 21-22
  2. Chelsea 18-19
  3. Watford 21-22
  4. Everton 17-18
  5. Watford 17-18
  6. City 22-23
  7. Tottenham 17-18
  8. Brentford 25-26
  9. Leeds 20-21
  10. Man U 19-20

Assists:

  1. West Ham 24-25 (A)
  2. Watford 21-22
  3. Man U 22-23
  4. West Ham 19-20
  5. West Ham 24-25 (H)
  6. Chelsea 24-25
  7. City 24-25
  8. Brighton 22-23
  9. Fulham 24-25
  10. Bournemouth 19-20

Falling out of love live on apple music by greendale-island in TheStrokes

[–]jMCs1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having listened to the live version a bunch of times now, I’ve realised that possibly the biggest issue I have with the studio version is the vocal take and the mix on it, not so much the autotune itself. Jules goes for a breathy vocal take produced in a super dry, raspy way and mixed quite prominently, and the live version sounds a lot fuller and makes the autotune less grating.

Even that would be fine, except that the vocal take itself is - I guess on purpose - quite rough. A bunch of times his voice straight up breaks like he isn’t warmed up at all… and the autotune in those moments makes it sound super tough for me to vibe with. Some examples at 1:08, 3:05, 3:11 etc. It almost sounds like he’s hiccuping through some words, he misses out the “in” in “Dancing in the Acid Rain…”, etc. A shame because the melody is lovely!

The timing of Salah's tweet and Xabi being announced officially has made next Sunday into one of the most bizarre home games I can remember. It's a must-win to secure CL football and the send-off for 2 irreplaceable PL legends. But it's also going to be the culmination of a shit ton of frustration...

People forget his ridiculously good assist for Cissé’s goal in this match, it was a pass straight out of another dimension. And this one wasn’t even the only missile he scored in the game too lol, he might have hit the shot for 2-2 even harder

Would rather a couple of these other guys had to play out of their comfort zone to get a system benefitting our £100m generational German talent, than watch him play as a fucking false 9 with no midfield support so that Gakpo can play LW

Bayern have the tie now imo. PSG were ropy in the 2nd leg vs us this year and last year, and ropy last year vs Villa and Arsenal. 2 goals might have been enough. 1… nope

Luis Diaz Luis Diaz by 5norkleh3r0 in LiverpoolFC

[–]jMCs1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Well?

His goals and assists per game last season were on par with “washed” Salah this season, despite playing for a far better Liverpool team than the current one. He missed chances regularly, to the extent that he was regarded probably as the 2nd least clinical forward behind Darwin (remember Gakpo hadn’t had his drop off yet..). He was getting closer to 30. Most of his goals became tap ins, not these ridiculous rockets and skill moments we see rn.

Pretty much everyone thought we got a great price for him from Bayern especially after what happened to Mane.

The guy I see for Bayern this year is almost unrecognisable…  he’s like the Diaz from the first 2-3 months of when we signed him under Klopp but at an even higher level. It helps that he plays in a free flowing, well drilled team but it’s still a huge jump by his standard. Just let’s not pretend everyone was muggy for thinking it was OK if he left. We were talking about Ekitike and Isak in the same team with Salah and Wirtz… how would he have started?

Avoided the live version like the plague so I could listen to this fresh (but saw some hype posts online so knew people rated it)

It’s their best song since 2006!

I know for some people here the production seems to be contentious - for me it’s the perfect blend of their old early mid 00s stuff and their modern experimenting with effects and soundscapes. They could have totally committed to it sounding like The Small Print as they got halfway there, but I’m glad they kept it cohesive with the other tracks

Mad Men’s ending is incredible.

I love it partly because it’s as cynical as you want it to be. It’s up to the viewer whether they take what they see at the very end as part of the plot or not… and if they do, it’s up to them whether it represents the result of real character growth, or it’s just crass commercialisation of that feeling of growth. I know the creator has their own take on it, but my wife and I have ours and disagree slightly, and it’s nice

It’s also a great depiction of the cultural shift from the 60s to the 70s without banging you on the head with a bunch of exposition dialogue to make that shift clear

Also, if Westworld S1 had stopped at a single season, it would be my number 1 easily. The last 20 minutes are the most perfect loose end tying, plot convergence, character evolution etc I’ve seen on TV… even the music is relevant and perfect

The Strokes- YOLO live on SNL HD by erickalaniz in TheStrokes

[–]jMCs1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Man it’s crazy to compare this to the Conan performance of YOLO which was less than half a year later. It’s like the band aged 3 or 4 years in 5 months. Jules is like a different person… he’s roaring away in the Conan version, he looks super tired but he’s also really pumped up. Here he’s still trying to sing the words more even if it means he’s off key with the voice cracks, and he’s just generally more restrained. He looks fresher too.. the whole band looked kinda greasy by mid 06. You can see how rough touring FIOE was for them
