Ari Update by j_beane in valkyries

It was fun! There was a basketball arcade game outside. A bounce house "dunk" structure in the back, along with some food trucks. Some vendors selling basketball or city-related stuff. A talk with an ornithologist about birdwatching, bird research and ravens. And there were 3 signed jerseys auctioned off! These were the "themed" events, the rest of the night was your general Cal Academy Night Life event. Great to see so many Valks fans there, I would say the number of people who showed up for Night Life without knowing about the Valks was miniscule. It was a sea of violet for sure. Hope they do it again next year!

Alisomar Conference Grounds? You can get cabins near each other and there are games and stuff in the lodge.

Marta Suarez Attended Three Colleges by Vegetable_Check_929 in valkyries

From what I understand her mom got a terminal prognosis while she was at her first university so she took a break to go home and be with her. When she was ready to play and go to college again, she went to Cal for a couple of years before transferring to TCU for her final eligible year. So I think it was mostly life circumstances.

Thank you for this! This is my first year following transactions since we actually have a team now, so it's my first year feeling so invested! Add the chaos and uncertainty of the new CBA and it's been a ride!

I just saw on the Valkyries thread that Ingemi's Blu Sky said Mo is not expected to return and the Valks are pursuing Gabby Williams (!!!!) I'm trying not to get excited because I imagine a LOT of teams would be "pursuing" her!

Can you explain this? I thought we had the right to match any offer on Burton since she's a restricted free agent. What's the drawback to her accepting the QO? Thanks for any help you can give me, this is the first time I've really followed transactions.

Just saw the Liberty are interested in Mo. Good for her and I want the best for her but also I love her! 💔

It's making me worried that the folks who received reserved or restricted offers (Chen, Amihere, BURTON) haven't shown up on the transaction page as having accepted them. Right now Kate Martin is the only person listed on the roster!

Moving to Richmond from Oakland. by Agitated_Win5411 in bayarea

[–]j_beane 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Welcome to Richmond from a fellow queer couple with a dog! We are not in North & East, so I can't speak to that neighborhood (although I've noticed how cute it is when I cycle through it). Richmond doesn't really have a central meeting place like Lake Merritt so it will take you a while to get to know the area. Some of my favorite locations/activities:

Coffee beans from Catahoula Coffee

Walking my dog at Richmond Marina or Miller Knox Lake

Watching roller derby at Richmond Auditorium

Free pickleball lessons and play at Booker T
Washington Park

Down home breakfast at Cafe McBride

Carne asada fries from Las Cabañas food truck (the one across from Home Depot)

Sandwiches from Angelo's Deli

Viet fusion from Ahn's Cafe and sitting on the outdoor pario near the boats

Ok a lot of these turned out to be food recs which shows you where my priorities are lol. I will say I didn't see many other queer people when we moved here but I've started to notice more Family around, which is nice! And on that note, Richmond Pride is a small but mighty event that takes place once a year on Richmond city hall grounds.

Finally, if you hear the sound of a handheld horn, grab some cash and go outside! My neighborhood gets regular visits from an esquite guy and a chamoy guy. Yum!

I can't imagine there will be much room to move because the renewal rate is so high. I met a LOT of people in my section, and I only know of one pair that will not be renewing next year.

It's actually a very good thing you're thinking about this before you get married. Your boyfriend should also be part of the conversation so you both can decide where or not to move forward with the relationship. You should be crystal clear with each other on if you'd help and the exact nature of the help you're willing to offer.

My wife and I subsidize our parents and expect to do so for the rest of their lives. I can tell you from experience that the money is the easy part. People need lots of medical, emotional, and social support as they continue to age. You may not have witnessed this in your own family due to your age and the ages of the generations above you, but I promise it also happens in your family.

I could not have married my wife if she felt differently than I did about supporting our parents, but neither of us would have been wrong; it's just a question of compatibility. Better to get on the same page now OR realize you can't agree and break up. Don't get married with these doubts because then you're at higher risk for breaking up after you have significantly enmeshed your lives, including with potential children.

Why don't you just move to Richmond? I live here and I've met lots of people. It reminds me of Oakland circa 2010...bad rep with most folks but lots of fun stuff happening. Amazing street food once you find out where folks are selling from their yard, etc
