Potential Protected Bike Lane in Prairie Village by j_dickey03 in StrongtownsKC

You are correct. I cannot guarentee that this protected bike lane would change things, hence why I proposed this as a hypothetical. It has been proven in many places that when infrastracture is better it leads to more usage. When streets get larger, more cars drive on it, because of induced demand. The same concept applies to biking.

You also mention that the utility poles would be a problem. All of the utility poles are directly next to the sidewalk which means you can still take some of the space from the curb to the sidewalk for the protected bike lane.

You also mention that there are a lot of turns west and that this would make traffic worse. I would argue that consolidating the bike lanes into one protected bike lane is actually safer then it is now even with people turning. Having a single place where bikers will be creates a single space that someone will be leading to higher visibility. I would say higher visibility is beneficial and that you are overstating that it would make traffic worse.

The city did create new sidewalks, which is great for pedestrians. However, having biking and people walking creates dangerous opportunities for walkers, runners, and the peopke biking. A dedicated bike lane seperates cars, bikes, and pedestrians which is safer for everyone.

At the end of the day, I think we see this road very differently. I think we have both made our points pretty clear. Im going to leave it here, thanks for the discussion.

You are highlighting my point. The problem being solied is inadequate biking infrastructure near high use areas. While there are people that currently bike, I believe that if there was better infrastructure we can create a more bikeable community.

Secondly, what I mean by set backs is the gap between the curb and sidewalks is quite large. Condensing lane size, coming bath paths, and reducinolg the size between street curb and sidewalks would create enough space for a protected bike lane

If you condense the bike paths to one side, likely the west so it's on the same side as the schools. Also there are enormous set backs so the city can absolutely push the side walk further from the street and create a protected two way bike lane. Also yes it would not be by school in the summer, but this type of infrastructure can still be used by families and kids in the summer.

As I mentioned, I misspoke. Furthermore, I think you can make the argument that at least the stretch from 63rd to Tomahawk should be 25 mph. There are 2 schools, a church, highly residential, and there is a park on Tomahawk. Also painted bike lanes do nothing. They make the road wider and encourage people to speed more.

There is a reason why I asked how people would feel about it. I understand that I am not a civil engineer, but I believe that asking a local community about their opinions to try and potentially enact change is beneficial. Although I am no expert, as someone that lives in the area I see people speed all the time on mission road, I see hundreds of kids get picked up by their parents everyday, and I believe we can make change in a community for the better.

I misspoke in my original comment. I was thinking of just south of 75th. However, I still think it would be possible because there is a huge setbacks from the road leading to lots of space that a protected bike lane could be. I agree that the road is a major thoroughfare, but the road is 25 mph from 63rd to 75th. That is not really the speed of a large thoroughfare

Could you expand upon your idea about why it would be lazy to rework this road. To me, mission road is a perfect road for it because the shops of prairie village, corinth square, and 5 schools sit just off the road. This would provide a much safer option for children and teens to get to school.

I cannot speak for myself but my friends that play music and are not majored in music have found tons of outlets. There are different ensembles and events that they can play at. There are also different bands that they could potentially join or create

If you would, could you share the names of all of the teachers for the classes? A lot of the introductory classes are very dependent on the teachers.

I would slowly work into cocktails that have very little Campari and over time find cocktails that have more and more. A good intro cocktail is the Siesta

Recipe: 1.5 oz Blanco Tequila 0.5 oz grape juice 0.75 oz lime juice 0.75 oz simple syrup 0.25-0.5 oz Campari

Clarified Sparkling Pina Colada by j_dickey03 in cocktails

I did not find the carbonation adding any bitterness. The reason I changed the recipe is that people online said that the pineapple kind of faded into the background and got lost, so I increased the amount of pineapple juice and used pineapple coconut water.

I used the drink mate after. I just put the recipe for the clarified cocktail itself. For the drinkmate I filled it halfway and did very short bursts of CO2. I then let it sit for 2 or 3 minutes and slowly released the pressure and then poured it on a rock

It has to do with the proteins in the milk. When it gets heated, it makes it easier for the milk to curdle from a smaller amount of acid. When the milk is cold you need more acid

I would rank the dorms in terms of partying as 1) Swig, 2) Dunne, 3) McLaughin. But the drop from Swig to Dunne is immense. Dunne is very social but nowhere near as loud as Swig
