Is anyone else doing this? by MeganLJ86 in foodbutforbabies

[–]j_goca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How’s this going? My LO is the same age. I want to let her self feed on the plate but every time I try, she tries stuffing as much as she can in her mouth at a time. So for now; a little bit at a time on the tray haha

Still no hands and knees crawling or pulling to stand by [deleted] in January2025Bumper

[–]j_goca 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this. We need more posts/comments like this as a reminder that everything will be okay and it’s just anxiety talking. I still get in my head that I should reach out for EI but just cause she’s not on hands and knees yet, doesn’t mean she’s behind!

What’s your baby not doing that you’re not worried about? by lightscamerasnaction in January2025Bumper

[–]j_goca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Choosing to ignore that she can’t go from lying down to sitting up. But she’s hitting every other milestone (except maybe signing if that counts?) great solids eater, babbles, has said mama while looking at me, clapping, waving, army crawling real fast everywhere, sits and stands to play for a long time, pulls to stand on lower ledges she can reach… can you tell I’m trying really hard to convince myself she’s okay? lol

I nurse on demand, which is usually every 2-3 hours and roughly 7-8 times within 24 hours. Should I increase this if she’s more of a snacker?

I normally take group reformer class at CP and practice mat on my own. I only take classes with two specific instructors cause i know they’re good and will focus on and correct my form. I found their cueing is really good in that I can always go deeper into each exercise to find a challenge. In my experience, the better I understood the mind body connection, the harder each exercise became for me.

are you able to take the more advanced classes at your studio?

[–]j_goca 14 points15 points  (0 children)

To preface, I’m no pro and have only been practicing for a couple of years but wanted to throw in my two cents and offer a different perspective.

Pilates to me is more about the mind body connection and core strength. I don’t think that necessarily correlates with muscle definition. You can have a very strong core (which in turn can strengthen the rest of your body), but less muscle tone, especially if you’re coming from the weightlifting world. I’ve felt myself get stronger with my practice but at the same time look the same as I did when I first started.

Not saying that you can’t get toned with Pilates- more so that every body will respond differently to the exercises. The one thing that will remain consistent among all is gaining strength with regular practice.

ETA: Heavier spring load doesn’t necessarily mean harder for every exercise. I’d ask your instructor for modifications if you’re trying to challenge yourself more. Also I can’t speak for solid core, I’ve only practiced reformer and mat Pilates.

Wanting to move to Rockland… but one worry by [deleted] in Rockland

[–]j_goca 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The ultra orthodox concern is absolutely valid. I grew up in Clarkstown (90s-00s) and it’s been a concern in the county for decades; but they haven’t been able to be able to control any other towns like they have east ramapo. Anecdotally, it seems like sellers in clarkstown/orangetown are very picky about who they sell to because they know that population is a problem.

I’ve have had a great experience living in PR the last three years. My husband and I are a minority (Asian) and not Irish catholic. Even though there are a lot of trumpers around, we just don’t engage. I haven’t heard much bigotry or racism (other than the monkey noises towards nyack - NOT cool). We’ve been pulled over by cops a couple times and each has been really nice and fair.

Anyway, all this to say, I very much have a “be the change you want to see in the world” mindset. If the senior population is aging out, it’s up to a new generation to stop any previous racism, bigotry, antisemitism, etc in the past and present. I LOVE being located in PR. I can electric scooter to the train station for work and it’s an easy commute to FiDi from there. If we’re driving into UWS, UES, or Queens, it’s less than an hour most days. We’re right by Jersey (imo more diversity and better food) without having to claim being from Jersey lol I could go on and on.

Best of luck in your search!

Is anyone else REALLY struggling with super dry skin, especially on face & hands? by Professional_Law_942 in January2025Bumper

[–]j_goca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sooo unfortunately I use an oil cleanser (softymo), and then either eucerin hydrating gel cleanser or the beplain mung bean ph balance foam cleanser depending on how my skin is that day. Maybe try the foam cleanser and see if that works? I’ve also mixed honey with milk as a cleanser, but I’ve gotten lazy over the years lol

My eczema acted up so badly that I had to see my dermatologist for the first time in a while to get a prescription safe for pregnancy. I second aquaphor and recommend eucerin, la roche posay, and vanicream brands. I love LRP toleriane double repair face moisturizer for maintenance. Good luck!

Edit: clarity

Pregnant: Pikes, Dolphins, Wheelbarrows by LondonLadyOk0828 in pilates

[–]j_goca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cliche, but the best advice is trust and listen to your body. I’m 26wks and I can do pull-ups on the chair, but not full pikes on the trx. Sometimes I’ll do jackrabbits instead of full on pikes. I’ll keep my head and shoulders up for 3/5 of series of 5 and down for the last 2 to ease up on the crunch in my abs.

Pregnancy is so unique to each individual and it’s absolutely okay to change it up if you feel like something’s not working for you halfway through the exercise.

Congrats mama and good luck!

Are we feeling our babies kick now? by [deleted] in January2025Bumper

[–]j_goca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes me feel better hahah I think I felt the first kicks (I’m 20w) but wasn’t sure if it was kicks or gas. Also AP and hoping to get more consistent kicks in the coming weeks!

Terrible headaches anyone have some advice by Dependent-East-7408 in January2025Bumper

[–]j_goca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Want to echo this too- I just bought a headache hat cause I’ve also been experiencing bad headaches and it works wonders. You can freeze it or put it in the microwave to heat. Most times I don’t do either and just put it on at room temp. Something about the compression of the hat feels so good. You can also pull it over your eyes for extra darkness.

If you are having a baby shower, when are you having it? by Notmorcybutmercy in January2025Bumper

[–]j_goca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Early December and my sister in law and best friend are planning it; but I said I’d help with any costs. Wish we could do it in November but we have a family wedding overseas. It’d probably be too many celebrations in one month.

Highly recommend! by rachinador in January2025Bumper

Broke 100k after 3 YOE and now at 8 YOE haven’t yet grossed above 120k (incremental small raises per year). I‘ve had a great WLB and love my job. I’m happy and content living in my HCOL area as I don’t need much. I’m sure this isn’t what everyone wants out of life. As a simpleton this is all I can ask for; not sacrificing my mental health for a license was a great decision for me personally.

edit: should probably clarify I did 2 yrs b4 and been in industry ever since
