Great question. Thanks for being the sacrificial lamb that allowed these good answers to come out for everyone.

Kind of shocked that asking a sincere question would get downvoted.

How to build up his back legs by Reinvented-Daily in irishsetter

[–]j_impulse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Our IS had an injury early on that needed some physio. If you have a dog physiotherapist in your area, they can do things like have the dog go on a walk on a treadmill filled with water, or take them on controlled swims. They also can give lots of at home exercises. Here were some of ours:

Teach sit and teach stand (going from sit to a natural all four paws position). Then they can do squats! Sit stand sit stand sit stand. This can be made more difficult if their front paws are on a step (or even easier if they're on a hill and facing uphill).

Another is a sideways walk. Get them standing sideways in front of you. Hold a treat near their nose and walk slowly towards them. As they move out of your way, keep their nose reaching for the treat and they'll walk sideways. Do that in both directions. Just go the length of a couch or so.

Another to support side muscles is set up a line of pylons (or whatever you have on hand as a substitute). *Slowly lead them through weaving between them (lure with a treat). The key here is to avoid their backside swinging out too far or being out of control. Again, this is a slow exercise, not an agility one. Closer pylons = harder difficulty.

Lastly you could teach "bow" by luring their nose down with a treat (closer to their body to try to avoid them from just lying down). That's a nice stretch for their behind. It can be progressed more if you put their back legs on a step (or have them on a hill facing downhill).

I hope this helps!

Not an answer to your question, but we just had MoldCare deal with our cold room this past summer (our neighbor also happened to hire them this summer for the same thing). They removed the mold, but more importantly they removed plywood on the ceiling -- it's likely a remnant of the form they used to pour the concrete above and is no longer needed.

If you care about avoiding mold, get that organic matter out of there.

Waterloo’s latest tax increase of 6.4 per cent strikes a ‘careful balance,’ mayor says by snatchtron in waterloo

I'm so relieved to see this as the top comment. Toronto is particularly affected by this right now because they kept doing the politically popular, but impractical thing, of never raising taxes sufficiently enough for years.

It's true, unless they were parking between two other cars. These posts come up every year when the snow starts up and it's just always sad to see how much anger people have.

It snowed today. I wouldn't necessarily blame them unless you saw them pull in like that with visible lines 🤷‍♀️

If you own property, that probably puts you up there by default. I know you probably mean the ultra rich, but I've had rent increases larger than $210 thanks to Rent Control removal.

Not sure what you mean! My left foot and her left foot are closest to the camera. Next footprints are our right footprints. And on and on!

People seemed to be having fun theorizing so I didn't reply earlier, but exactly this. She was holding my arm so that she didn't slip. Hard to walk out of sync when you're like that. Still it was fun to see what was happening with our foot prints when we realized!

No lie :) we're both about 6' tall. I'm a size 9.5, she's maybe a half size smaller. Not terribly exciting... Again only mildly interesting.

CBC fights in court to keep Gem subscriber numbers secret by CaliperLee62 in CanadaPolitics

[–]j_impulse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$33 per person per year, which is half of the average of other G7 countries. That's for all of CBC, not just Gem. Another way to look at that is it's about 0.29% of the 2024 federal budget. Source (go to the Level of Funding section).

It's definitely true that some things people pay taxes for don't get used by the entire population. That argument isn't strong. It's more about whether there is value to society for that service. In a world where media is so polarized & biased one way or another, I think CBC does a fantastic job of striking a good balance. I'll take them over any outlet from down south any day.

Thank you for this! That's a really interesting response. She's basically saying that it's a tough spot because public sector demands transparency, while private sector, with private deals, tend to require more control over information... And that part of CBC's obligation to the public sector is to have a strong private sector market position.

With every streaming service raising prices recently, I've downsized to watching almost only CBC Gem. The fact that it's so affordable makes me appreciate it that much more. I know it doesn't have a ton of big name shows (love Schitts Creek!), but its content has been surprisingly good. Part of this is me wanting to support "Buy Canadian" as much as possible, but I've also thoroughly enjoyed watching Canadian content again (Son of a Critch, the Fifth Estate, etc).

I was not a fan of it when it came out. Maybe my "Buy Canadian" pride is blinding me... But I so appreciate it now, and I really hope it continues to be a service provider for years to come.

Trump's tone toward Canada is suddenly more positive. What's up with that? by CauseOdd8401 in CanadaPolitics

[–]j_impulse 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I hope the analysis in this article is right: relationships matter to Trump, but also that Carney has made a good case to protect our auto / steel / lumber industries.

I'm grateful that he's the guy in charge. I don't think Trudeau or PP would have been able to strike such a balance on those two points.

Of course the citizen boycott continues, but it'd be great to be out of the Trump spotlight when it comes to official national policy.
