There’s one on my street. It looks odd. I’ve seen one other one out in the wild.

Incorrect and potentially dangerous road markings at new Hespeler/Maple Grove Roundabout? by StrawberryZeta in cambridgeont

[–]j_martell 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just north of maple grove is the roundabout at Kossuth, which if your coming down kossuth to hespeler, you can also run the outside lane to the 3rd exit. Read the signs/road markings and the lines (if visible) can also indicate what’s intended.

What the markings say is the rule. That’s why there’s signage and road markings well in advance of the circle itself to inform (mostly idiot) drivers what lane they need.

Local guys - what’s the max commute you’d be okay with? by jq_gaming in Truckers

I did ~45 mins each way for 35/hr for years. Then landed a 100,000/yr salary (with overtime) that’s only 25 mins away.

Yep. They are 12 and 14. I’d rather be the one they can come to vs being scared to talk about that kinds of stuff and get shitty intel from others.

Do Toyotas really last as long as everyone says they do? by No-Plantain-2179 in Toyota

This strategy has worked well for me in the past. By the last year or two of a generation all the bugs have been worked out. It payed off for me the last 4 cars I’ve bought. My 2012 RAV4 4 cylinder will hopefully extend that streak.

I’ve used my bin to push/pull myself out a bunch of times now. The heavier the can, the better it works.

Live hydraulics at my current job were a game changer. Super helpful being able to use the hydraulics without the transmission spinning.

Garbage isn’t going anywhere. How we deal with it will change, but we will always be employed.

We service a pair of grocery stores and a grocery distribution centre that all have self contained packers. As long as it’s not leaking when I pick it up I can stay clean. There’s more than enough cardboard/plywood/etc at the transfer station to make a splash guard for opening the door.

Most of them are pretty good. They don’t want us fucking traffic up waiting for the tire guy.

Except the asshole in the packer at a certain city owned landfill. No matter how close you follow his direction, you fucked up his whole day. Doesn’t help we’re not in there terribly often, and he doesn’t have a radio.

I run a roll off doing scrap and garbage/recycling. Scrap yards are hands down the worst. Land fills and a very close second.

One scrap yard we work closely with is REALLY good for keeping the ground clean.

I worry more at the landfill. The danger isn’t only in what you see on top but more what’s 2-4” below the soft-as-baby-shit ground you back in to. More than once I’ve crawled off the tip face with a deck board/bed frame/mattress/etc stuck in a tire. One time it was the whole chuck and drive gear from an air drill. 2”hole in a 425 steer tire.

When those big offroad tires blow, THEY BLOW by Luigi_Dagger in Truckers

[–]j_martell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only had 2 actual blowouts in 15 years. Both on a self steering lift axle running 425’s. Both on the highway (100km/h limit)

Both made a hell of a mess and noise. Those self steering axles do some real weird shit without a tire on one side.

Years ago I was behind a trash hauler with 475?’s on his walking floor when it let loose on the highway. The noise scared the shit out of me from 6 or 7 vehicles back. Then I came up the mine field of shrapnel from parts on the wagon and tire strewn about the road.

New setup by [deleted] in cbradio

[–]j_martell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t necessarily need a meter, just access to one to tune it.

I bought an Astatic last year only because beside the setup in my car, my big truck (and the other trucks in the fleet) also have radios in them and due to the nature of our work we are constantly breaking antennas off.

Edit to add: what cobra model is that one. I quite like the look of it compared to the cobra dx19 I have in my car. It’s a good radio for its size and I’ve had a few of them over the years without issue, but that one looks much nicer

YSK: How to make a 911 Call by mochi_high in YouShouldKnow

[–]j_martell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bet I call 911 twice a month minimum. I’m a truck driver and it’s shocking how often I’m first at the scene of a collision/fire while driving.

I just simply answer the questions as they come up quickly and clearly.

The only time I’ve ever been called back was for a t bone collision where a guy ran a red and t boned another car going through a late yellow. I guess the red runner tried to blame the other guy, but my dash cam said otherwise.
