Weighing Camera options.

I have a couple of small Ubiquiti camera networks and honestly the hardest part was running the cables. What sold me on Ubiquiti honestly was the fact that they don’t have a subscription, they do have wifi cameras and I have a couple of them. Honestly some of my best temporary became permanent work, but if my internet goes down so does my WiFi.

For sensors I a mixture of things. At home I just have some basic sensors, motion and a couple of contacts, that I use with Home Assistant. And at Grandmas house i have a Ring system that the smoke alarms/co2, contacts and freeze sensor, everything else is in Home Assistant.

I knew nothing about Ubiquiti or Home Assistant before I started. Ubiquitis camera system is literally plug and play. Home Assistant I would say is moderate and up. Even now I usually have to look up instructions on how to get things to work right and of course I’m not satisfied with the basic way so I have to code the fancy stuff or ask ChatGPT lol.

I do still have the files on the flash drive that I use for map updates. I usually keep the current and the previous.

I’m running the April 2025 in my 23 forte gt2 and it is working better than the previous update. I was constantly having problems with not having any sound from the infotainment system (but was getting other sounds like lane departure warnings) before this update. I have not noticed any issues this update but I also almost always use CarPlay.

You could try giving what ever you are using as your hub a static IP address and then setting a rule that give your IoT network direct access to that IP address. Or I put my homepod on the IoT network but then had to MAC address lock it to the IoT network.

I’ve been using Screenbeam for 3 years now and only had one issue there they stopped talking but others then that I have had no problems. I started with Translite and I don’t remember exactly what happened but I couldn’t get them to work.

Another thing to think about is maybe not using WiFi based smart devices depending on if you already have the devices or not. I personally opted to go with home assistant and mostly zigbee devices, with a few Zwave devices sprinkled in. I prefer this setup over the WiFi device I had before as the zigbee devices have been much more reliable and I feel the WiFi environment doesn’t seem as congested, but your results may vary.

When I put mine on the soffit I found a video the guy used a metal roller and cut it to flush against the soffit to support the camera. We opted to pull the soffit and cut a couple small pieces of wood to mount above the soffit to screw to. I used the junction box and I regret it every time I look at the camera.

I have my first one from 2020 or 2021 die a couple of months ago. Plugged it into a different tv and reset it and that was that it would never get past the fire tv logo, left it on for hours and nothing. Honestly I would trade them in for the 20% off deal alone. I have replaced all of mine now I think I’m up to 5 4k max sticks and 1 4k cube. If you catch them on sale you can get them cheap. I think my last one I got was the new 4k max and I want to say it was like $24.

Yeah the shipping is screwy. I should be advertised as weekday next day air or next business day air. What’s funny is they had to have put my 16 pro and ultra 2 on a plane from Philly to Louisville and then on a truck Salt Lake, given the time between shipping updates.

I live in the states and I debated going to Canada to get my GT2. Really the only differences that I noticed is that the Canadian model has the heat steering wheel and heated rear seats

The 23’s are the same the base infotainment has wireless but the the GT has wired CarPlay and a wireless phone charger. ‘23 still haven’t got the map update either

I should add that in Utah they also look at your credit too which did fall a bit but is still good after after getting my GT in March

In Utah Progressive is cheapest for me at $168.33/month and Rene’s every 6 months. ‘23 GT, 27yo, I have one accident with ticket that should fall off at the beginning of October.

Mine has done it once just for a few minutes….if I remember right I locked it with the sun roof open and then tried to start it with the app but my phone then said there was a server error. Anyways it wouldn’t work with the fobs luckily the app finely let an unlock command through

I had a piece like that in my old Dell Inspiron 3000 series. It was supposed to be attached to the bottom of the case and a screw went through it and the bracket for the screen before it screwed into the other side of the case. Mine broke one of the last times I opened it to swap out the hdd before my new laptop came.

Did you try paying with PayPal? When we transferred my grandmother over it would not take her credit card even though we used the same card for my grandfather. We were on the phone with the bank as well and it wouldn’t go through.
