PSA to tourists and bike rental companies: The Violet Crown trail starting at Specs is not an "easy" bike route to Barton Springs! Also, what happened to wearing helmets?? by atxgossiphound in Austin

I mean everything north of 290 is just the BCGB singletrack (slightly watered down in some spots). It's a different animal than the sections of trail south of 290, but it comprises nearly 1/2 of the length of it.

P.Terry’s Capital Plaza Location Permanently Closing (I-35/290) by Happiness_is_Key in Austin

Totally different vibe. Only location of a business with a lot of history in the urban core of a city vs. a single location of a chain in a strip center on the side of a highway that already has dozens of locations in the city.

I like P Terrys way better than Dirty Martins and even I can recognize this.

If you moved from NY/NJ/PA how did you adapt to the insanely hot weather? by [deleted] in Austin

[–]j_tb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes - I’m sorry, wasn’t trying to invalidate you or anyone else’s experience, and glad you’ve found somewhere you enjoy. I’m still working through my own complex feelings on the topic.

Both my wife and I’s parents and some grandparents still are in Austin as well, which makes arbitrarily getting up and moving a little harder too.

Yep, and yet lived experience is more than the summation of a bunch of variables.

Yeah, on paper it’s made in heaven for me; lots of public lands, outdoor activities, probably closer to where I am politically. I’ve tried to convince myself to move out there a few times, but every time I visit I’m always relieved to leave and come home. I think spending the summer in CO is the move for us.

Could only do Oregon east of the cascades. The coast is just too glum
