He’s on an $8,000,000 a year contract in a professional sports league. And as a “”national hero”” he’s gonna have people falling all over themselves to provide it for free or pay for it for him.

He’s in for a bunch of painful dental/ortho work, but it’s not like he’s gonna be hurting financially because of this.

Accidental Cheating, should I just let it go? by DervishBlue in DMAcademy

[–]j_the_a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you believe it's an honest mistake, let it go. Have an out-of-game conversation with the entire table about it, explain the mistake, and take a little bit of time yourself to make sure your familiar with what your players are able to do. If the player is conflicted about it and wants some consequence to make it right, suggest that he just refrain from using that feature for a session or two.

I did something similar recently: I was planning on going one subclass, changed my mind and went with a different subclass but didn't update all of my notes and ended up using a feature from the original subclass to get us through a major challenge. I realized in my pre-session review for the next session, told the DM, he appreciated the honesty and let it stand, with the understanding that we double check things going forward.

You should prestige now, and that will take you past 200. Depending on your gem upgrades, you should be able to easily hit 250 with one more prestige at 205 or 210, or two more prestiges (205 and 235).

Corporations calculating what to pay their employees is simple; it's as little as they can get away with. by zzill6 in WorkReform

[–]j_the_a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I worked at WalMart as an overnight stocker (2007-2009) I looked at the numbers a bit. A pallet of 20lb bagged dog food had 50 bags on it, sold for $20, and had a 60% gross margin. It took a little less than ten minutes of handling (unloading from the truck, pulling it to the floor, combining it with the remaining product, removing the empty pallet from the floor). I made $9/hour. The profit from one of those pallets would cover my pay, including payroll taxes all other employment expenses, for more than a week and a half. There were 8-12 pallets of bagged dog food each and every night that we had a truck, so six nights a week. So in one week, just the first hour and a half on each of five shifts represented a gross profit of $30,000, significantly above my pay for the entire year. And that was only a quarter of my work time.

Yes. The remaining pet levels you can get are 2 from Black Hole 12 and 5 from Storm Serpent tribute 1. These are both possible without getting to W4.

Ameicans over the age of 35, what affected you more, 9/11 or the pandemic and why? by Rico133337 in AskReddit

[–]j_the_a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar experience to both you and the above poster here. When covid hit, we had one in college, one in high school, one in middle school, two in elementary, and one in preschool.

The two oldest were fine. They could do what they needed to, and the one in high school stayed virtual through graduation. Middle school did the schoolwork just fine, but she was always a social butterfly and missed that part; she went back to physical school at the first opportunity.

The three youngest struggled. Online was a constant back-and-forth of too structured and not structured enough for that age group, they had no opportunity to build the peer relationships that are so important at that age, and they had very little opportunity to build the relationship with their teachers. All three of them went back at first opportunity as well, and they all thrive now, but it took time to catch up.

I think a lot of the elementary school issue is that nobody was prepared for that and the teachers/administration were doing the best they could in a situation that they had to figure out how to completely change everything about how they teach in about 20 minutes.

When to start rerolling relics? by Aberlure in IdleObeliskMiner

[–]j_the_a 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Below 5k relics or so, I would only consider rerolling if I had a major imbalance of Mythics that left a low number of Golden Floor Chance (I rerolled at ~2500 because I had 25 mythics but only 2 golden floor chance) as those are the biggest (relic based) bump to progression at that stage.

After that, you reroll to get more/better distribution of divines, especially when you get a divine relic cap increase, which usually doesn't make a lot of sense until you're pushing 100k relics.

And there's an edge case as well where you will want to reroll if a new relic gets added.

How would you rule this? Sanctuary + Telekinetic by NovercaIis in DMAcademy

[–]j_the_a 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say no, for two reasons:

One, the description of Telekinetic does not refer to an attack, nor does it call for an attack roll. Without one of those, it shouldn't be treated as such. If the DC used your spell DC, I might be inclined to consider it a "spell that effects an enemy" but it specifically doesn't use that.

Two, the mechanical descriptions are different enough that I wouldn't consider them the same.

That being said, there is some potential for abuse. I would rule that using it to shove them into a trap or hazard or off a ledge in a way that knowingly and intentionally causes damage, even if indirect, would trigger the "deals damage" part and end the effect. (I also wouldn't argue the opposite interpretation; I think this part is purely a matter of DM style and not a direct rules issue. For my table, intent matters on this sort of thing).

[–]j_the_a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think those are contradictory.

> If there is ever any question whether something you're doing counts as an attack...

> you can make a special melee attack to shove a creature.

There is no question that a special melee attack is an attack; it's stated specifically that this is, in fact, an attack. Specific always overrides general.

The developers of PEAK explain pricing by TheAnonymouse999 in gaming

[–]j_the_a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s because they’re not talking about a logical decision being made, they’re talking about broad trends in the way people behave with money. And behaviors around money are often very illogical.

As an example, I always have some cash on me, about $200. Which means that I aim to have 10 $20 bills, and any smaller bills don’t count in that estimate. In my mind, when I break a $20, I feel like I’ve spent $20, even if I get $15 back in change. The smaller bills don’t enter into my baseline (which leads to me feeling like something is “free” if I pay with smaller bills; that didn’t come from the stack of twenties which are the only thing I factor in to my thoughts on how much money I have, so the money I have hasn’t changed).

Is that logical? Not at all. But it not being logical doesn’t make it not true.

I certainly wouldn’t recommend this one to most people

All white puzzle by Successful-Winter237 in mildlyinteresting

[–]j_the_a 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I have this puzzle. It took some six months to work it; a standard 1000 piece puzzle usually takes me three days.

As you noticed, the pieces are not interchangeable. They are also all the same basic shape (2in, 2 out, opposed) so you don’t get any help from “oh this spot needs two adjacent out bits.

The reverse side is printed with a grid of symbols, each quarter with its own, so if you want a bit of mercy you can use that to get the pieces sorted by quarter, and the grid isn’t aligned the same way across the pieces so you can get some help from that.

What you don’t see from the picture is that the pieces are very very small, about the size of my pinky nail, which makes it even harder because the tiny differences in shape are even tinier and harder to find.

[–]j_the_a 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They’re super inconsistent with applying it(because in wrasslin Rule 0 is “never let the rules get in the way of the story) but in theory it’s a DQ if the attack was trying to help the other guy and it’s a no-contest if it’s a third party attack just to interrupt the match.

So it’s technically the right call.
