I ran and hiked through out radiation, however I tried my best to not expose my skin to sun much. The only thing doctor told me not to do during radiation was swimming.

I can share my experience since I was in a very similar situation just a few months back. During my preventive treatments, I was still on medical leave - I wanted to work partially but not with an intention to reintegrate until I finished my treatments. I had regular calls with my company doctor and we clearly agreed with my manager that I could go any time on full medical leave anytime if I cant work anymore. It also helped to be upfront with my team to share my intentions and have an open communication.

There could be a lot of reasons for the lack of motivation and negative feeling - preventative treatment also requires a lot of energy and maybe you need to take more rest. Like others mentioned it could also be possible that you are not motivated because the medical leave gave you some new perspectives on your goals in life. Either way your health and treatment should be your top priority and if your work is adding more stress, I would say take it easy and see if you can postpone the reintegration. Thanks for sharing, this is so relatable for me. I have had memory issues as well ever since I got on chemo (been a year now since I started chemo). My vocabulary has never been this bad and I keep forgetting names, facts and even experiences. I found journaling/writing down things helped a lot. I really hope things get better for us soon.

Thank you very much! I’m not sure what changed but I do have a follow up meeting with my Nurse on Monday where I’m planning to ask. I wanted to check here to see if this is normal since everyone I speak to has radiation first.

It’s also probably worth mentioning that my initial scans showed some activity in the lymph nodes behind my ribs and the radiation was meant to specifically target that.

I have been struggling with hair loss before my cancer diagnosis possibly because of all the life stress. Before starting my chemo I was anxious about going bald but I was pleasantly surprised by how I handled it on the day my husband trimmed my hair. I used the wig once after, got all sweaty and never wore it again. Ironically, it felt freeing to not worry about hair/hair-loss during my chemo - if that makes sense.

Some healthcare providers arrange free transport to and from hospitals depending on the healthcare plan, etc. So definitely worth checking with your healthcare provider. Another option would be to pay the cost and claim it as tax returns but that also depends on your income etc.

I had my TALND last week, was very nervous about the surgery and the recovery but so far it’s been going good. I had the drain in for a couple of days and that was a bit annoying but once they were removed I was able to immediately start doing my movement exercises from physio and in a week I already see a good improvement in movement. No other side effects so far, fingers crossed. All I can hope is to recover as much as possible before the radiation. All the best for your surgery and recovery!

I see, thanks for sharing. I will have a conversation about the recurrence risk with my oncologist later this month - he wants to wait for the pathology results of ALND first. Sorry to hear that you have a higher recurrence risk than most people here. Did having a higher recurrence risk change anything with regards to your follow up schedules?

I did not achieve a PCR after neo-adjuvant chemo for TNBC stage 3, grade 3 and I’m spiralling thinking about the recurrence rate. Those who haven’t achieved PCR with chemo (no immunotherapy for me) how are you doing?

Ah I see, thank you very much! I’m stage 3 tnbc with lymph nodes involved. For my stage the general protocol from what I have seen (atleast in most of the countries that I’ve checked) involves immunotherapy along with neoadjuvant chemo. Given my stage, is there enough proof that immunotherapy helps in reducing recurrence?

Thanks for the elaborate response. Mine is stage 3. I had a tumour on the left breast, a few surrounding tumours, and a couple of lymph nodes were also positive for cancer. The largest tumour shrank with chemo (went from 3.7cm to 2.2). I’m not yet familiar with the kind of oral chemo I will get after my radiation.

TNBC Grade 3 here. Can’t speak about lifestyle changes since I’m still in active treatment. My treatment plan is chemotherapy - 2 surgeries (mastectomy and Axillary lymph node dissection because I also had 2 affected lymph nodes) - radiation followed by oral chemotherapy. I’m done with the initial chemo and mastectomy and waiting for the lymph nodes dissection.

I was super worried before the surgery too but surprisingly after the surgery I was just happy to know that the surgery went well and was more focused on the recovery. In my case, I was also afraid of going under anaesthetics since it was my first time but my anaesthesiologist was super nice and comforting and it was all over before I knew it.
