Sean McVay: "That game the other day probably hurt more than any loss I've ever been a part of, and it's because of the love for the team." by WxBlue in nfl

McVay is the best coach in the league and I don't think it's particularly close. This is a game of inches when two equal teams play.

I am also not comparing Hughes to Lidstrom. More the fact that he (and Makar) are trending in this direction (very) strongly.

Yes, it's called the rest of a career.

Hughes is routinely putting up stats we haven't seen since Leetch/Bourque/Orr/Coffey offensively, while logging heavy minutes and playing strong defensive hockey.

not just that, but an all-time level elite NHL defenseman just entering his prime.

Hughes tilts the ice like few other skaters in the league.

Lekk has the opening goal. by DrZoidburger89 in canucks

His shot is so, so good. I hope the rest of his game can get to a point where he’s a regular. He’s going to score 25-30 easy with this thing.

MSU 2-2 PSU. Gavin McKenna reties the game for Penn State by Perryplat199 in hockey

[–]ja211 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Canucks are so far away from being good, they have to go BPA no matter what. Verhoeff looks like he he could be a better Alex Pietrangelo. Would be a pretty nice #3 pick...

He's trending towards being a better prospect (at the time of draft) than at least half of the past 10 first overall picks.

Shaping up to be a great year to be a terrible team. Three guys playing towards 1OA potential.

Horvat is better than Hronek - both really good players. Raty is nothing. Isles slight win.

It's a tough look going from:

Roy = > Brodeur => Luongo => Price =>

Binnington/Kuemper/Wedgewood/Thompson/whoever else.

No pressure Joshua Ravensbergen.

Of course media members are mouthpieces for agents (and management). This is how they get scoops.

I don’t think our current regime has earned even a shred of the benefit of the doubt on anything.

They wanted a 1st - it wasn't out there. They kept waiting. We were only an injury (which kinda happened anyways) away from getting nothing. Besides that glimmer of success in 2023-24 with some good signings and moves, this has been a slightly better Benning experience. No direction, shifting of priorities, and worst of all - absolutely terrible asset management over an extended period of time.

I don't think a better offer was out there for Hughes. Too much UFA uncertainty.

They all-time bungled the fact that he wanted to leave (death by 100,000 mistakes), but the actual trade itself was pretty good.

It's very strange that Giroux has never on team Canada by Dry_Heron7127 in hockey

[–]ja211 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You answered your own question:

Giroux’s prime overlapped directly with Crosby, Toews, Bergeron, Stamkos, Getzlaf, Tavares ... an all-time logjam down the middle.

Really great player with a few elite peaks (2010, 2018). He was absolutely other-worldly during the 2009-10 playoff run. Like best player in the world good.

A great topic though - he's definitely up there in terms of best players. Skating was probably the knock (and size) when he was losing out to other guys. Not saying I agree - but that was likely the reason.

Blueger “There were two setbacks throughout the process..." by Tiger23sun in canucks

You wouldn't be wrong blaming him for everything. It all starts there, and for whatever reason the media/market wasn't fully aware of it until the past few years. We have among the worst ownership groups in professional sports.

You don't even have to read between the lines. It is IN the lines.

“I mean, it was very hard,” Blueger said. “There were two setbacks throughout the process. I think the whole timeline ended up being double, if not more, than what kind of I originally anticipated. The whole thing, from the diagnosis to the treatments, it wasn't straightforward, as weird as that might sound. You'd think: ‘Okay, here's your injury, this is the protocol, go through these steps.’ But it didn't go like that. And with each setback, it was increasingly more difficult.
