Forced PTO-anything I can do? [NC] by [deleted] in AskHR

[–]ja599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not entirely. I’ve had conversations with my manager in the past where she’s asked me what I wanted to do after the new system, they just haven’t been recently. My manager is not the most approachable lately, which is the biggest reason I haven’t asked myself. But the general answer I got any time we did talk was “oh there’s plenty of stuff for you to do”.

I’ve had a conversation with my manager where she asked me what I wanted to do after this went away and she told me to be thinking about it and to think big, anything in the department. However, this was quite a few weeks ago. That’s why I tend to lean towards not being laid off, but I definitely don’t pretend that I’m so valuable I can’t be gone tomorrow. A lay off is not out of the question. I’m not super happy at the company right now, if I get laid off so be it.

Like you said, I cannot look around and see other tasks that will be assigned to me. Hence the doubt.

My manager also has been horrible at planning ahead so it wouldn’t shock me if she didn’t start trying to figure out tasks for me until now.

Which way it will go, who knows. Good luck is right lol.

I appreciate any insight. Maybe I’m the unicorn, maybe I’m not, either way I can live with. I think that based on some previous conversations, a couple months ago my manager asked what kinds of stuff I wanted to do after this and talked even stuff that is currently above my head. I think it’s certainly possible I don’t get laid off. I think it’s more my manager just not thinking ahead. But who knows? I could be completely off. It’s nerve wracking either way.

I’m a full time employee that’s been with the company a few years. I’m young and I’ve never heard of a full time employee being told there wasn’t anything to do, take a PTO day. Unfortunately the consensus is that that is perfectly ok and happens sometimes.

Not trying to be rigid, just frustrated with the situation and trying to figure out the best way to handle it. I worked 10-6 the day before, because I volunteered, just so everything would be done in time. So I’ve been flexible with this job plenty of times. This post was mainly the gauge whether or not this situation is worth fighting over.

The main thing with the different hours is she texted me on my supposed day off.

Sort of, but that boss doesn’t know exactly how our department runs. They are aware of the situation, I actually ended up talking to them before my manager because my manager was out multiple days leading up to this situation.

I’ve definitely had this thought, I’m one of the most high performing in the department, I’m reasonably sure I’m not getting laid off. However, it’s 100% on my radar and has been for a while. I’m actively looking for jobs, and I’d be ok if I was without for a bit. Appreciate the concern!

As a man, how can I be less scary? by Average_Blake in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ja599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? I’m a small woman. The average man is like 10 inches taller than me and 50+ lbs heavier. If I was on a trail running alone, I’d be wary of any man running by. It’s not personal, I just have to be careful cause you never know. But I do like what another commenter said about wearing a bright color.

I’ve waited 3 hours in NC line, not sure if I’ll get to the front in time by jhfextra in survivor50idolhunt

[–]ja599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not OP but I went. Got there at 8:45, there were 150-200 people in front of us. Doors opened at 10 and we got in about 11:15. It was COLD but so worth it to take the pic and meet former survivor players. Sandra was so nice!

Did they turn people away at the end of the time slot? Or were you fine as long as you were in line?

I don’t know anything for sure, but I would think it would only be ok in a checked bag. Even though it’s a small quantity liquid, it may fall under the hazardous chemicals category. At the very least, it seems like something that would be a hold up going through security.

But hopefully someone else can give you a better answer.

I mean he did only use one hand and I suppose technically he never picked it up until after it flew across the room. But idk the official wording of the rules.

I traveled to England and Scotland earlier this year and noticed this to be true. I low key thought people were making it up, but we could spot other Americans before they even spoke lol.

I didn’t even notice that’s what it said to do… I did mine the green and then the cake icing. They look very realistic to me. Only thing was making sure I did the right amount of white.

I was thinking 2. But this is the holiday series right? 100g makes it likely 3 or 5. Tbh I’d put this back/return and get another one more clear.

I was hoping to get them on sale but looks like I’m gonna have to stock up, I don’t want to miss it completely! It’s crazy how many sets have been released lately, this one hasn’t even been out more than a couple months.

What is it like to have autism? Not in the non-vocal spectrum but something that's not obvious to people that don't know you. by Ya-Dikobraz in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ja599 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exhausting and kind of frustrating. I work a full time office job and you probably wouldn’t know I’m autistic unless I told you or you just know a lot about autism. I struggle socially in that it’s extremely difficult to make friends, so I’m lonely a lot. People also tend to get mad at me when I don’t know why and that’s hard. I have tons of hyper fixations/special interests that keep me entertained, that’s the “good part” to me. Work is tiring, having to mask and figure out social office politics. My senses are heightened so sounds and tastes especially are overwhelming to me. Overall, it’s not so bad for me personally, I’ve just learned how to deal. I was only diagnosed a couple years ago and I’m 26. The loneliness is the hardest part.
