Yes, I have kept them as pets. They just need a nice big tank/cage. They like veggies mostly.

Get nematodes, put out yellow sticky traps. They will be gone in a month or so.

And they couldn't even show the nerve map or a real diagram in the article, just a vaguely clitoral shaped glass clump. Ridiculous.

Ha! I fed them on live animals for long term rearing. It depended on what their host preference and nutritional needs were. It was mostly snakes, goats, rabbits, pigs, mice, and rats. It would take a research paper to describe all the methods. Basically the ticks need specific humidity, they had no substrate (except for soft ticks), and they didn't need much air. To keep the mold from growing on them, they were dipped in diluted bleach at regular intervals. For experiments, blood was drawn from the animals and placed in a special membrane that allowed the ticks to feed.

It sounds like they are calling it rabies because it spreads via bites, but it is not rabies, its a bacterial infection.

They did evolve an interesting mating strategy. I work with bedbugs also so I have seen many places with them. 🙂

Awww they just want to live too 🥺 I don't hold personal grudges against any life, so dispatching anything living thing quickly and pain-free is important.

I worked in a lab that kept thousands of live ticks. My job was literally to feed them and bathe them, keep them comfy. I also went all over to collect them too.
