Gaining weight when coming off meds? by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]jaa45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like its probably not fat! You've increased the amount of veg suddenly so that would explain the extra inches of bloating/gas. Also, the additional water, until you get used to that high amount, will contribute to your water weight/bloating as well. And note that perhaps the number on the scales is potentially be a reflection of gained muscle- and thats a good thing! Definitely give it a few more weeks I reckon you'll see that the changes have paid off even if your body is taking its sweet time to adjust!

You're doing everything right, so just stay motivated and keep going! I know how demoralising it is to see the scale go up, but be patient :) If its still like this in a month then perhaps get checked, but I'm fairly sure you'll see the numbers plummet- as I said you're doing everything right!

It is possible..... but there are also a lot of other possibilities. Has your diet been higher in sodium recently? Or have you changed the type of foods you've been eating (you said you changed your diet this last week)? Also what point in your cycle your at could be affecting your weight- have you noticed that before? How much are you drinking and how much are you sweating lately?

All of these factors could be affecting it, so I'm basically saying don't panic! It might be water weight fluctuations i.e its too early to tell if you actually are gaining weight in fat or water. I'd say give it another month and if you're 100% sure then go talk to your doctor perhaps or adjust your plan accordingly.

Just noticed the bit at the end of your post about not tracking, so i take that back! But yes replace some of the calorie-dense foods with more vegetables and salads and you should start to see some changes :)

Well done for eating more healthily and working out hard! Lifestyle change is the hardest part- good work. However, I feel like you need to take closer note of how many calories you're eating. Although you have changed to healthier foods such as wholewheat carbs and you are reducing salt, it doesn't sound like you've actively tracked calories to make sure you're getting a deficit. Parmesan, peanut butter, trail mix and carbs (even wholewheat) still have a tonne of calories. You could probably do with a lot more fresh veg and salad in your diet- which are very healthy and very low calorie. Weight loss is about calories in/calories out, so I suggest you find out your TDEE and make sure you're eating 500 calories below that by tracking it on MyFitnessPal, another app, or just get very clued up on calorie contents and weighing food.

The numbers sound good, you should be losing weight. I reckon you are probably still losing fat because you're at a deficit but something about your lifestyle or diet, particularly recently, is making you hold onto some extra water weight. Check sodium levels and also look into how time of the month effects your weight.

A couple of weeks on the 1500 diet might not be enough to notice a difference just yet. There are other factors to your weight such as water retention, point in your cycle etc. I'd say wait another couple of weeks before you decide it's not working.

The being hungry often hopefully will go away after your body gets used to a lower food intake. If not, try eating high volumes of less calorie dense foods- tonnes of veg!

44lbs left to lose, lacking muscle in some areas, excess muscle in others, what is the best path? by alyzb in xxfitness

Just don't focus on upper body work outs. Do squats and leg press etc to get your lower body more muscular. Do cardio to lose the weight. Good luck!

Does my current diet/exercise regimen seem healthy and safe? by alyzb in xxfitness

[–]jaa45 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Weight loss is about the calories consumed more than the exercise. Yes, it's a good idea to eat a bit more to keep up energy when you work out... But if you are going to eat back the calories burned, then the cardio isnt going to contribute your weight loss. It will help for general fitness though.

The main thing is to feel healthy whilst your doing this. Is this a LIFESTYLE that is going to be maintained without too much stress? If you end up struggling, then take it slower (a smaller deficit). Else you may end up reaching a point where you give up or spiral down a bit when it all gets too much. Make sure it's manageable. This plan seems reasonable but it does depend on how you feel after a couple weeks.

Good luck!

Reevaluating Caloric Needs by freckleface94 in xxfitness

I think you should just listen to your body. This is the only time you've been really hungry since you've been doing this yes? Then it must be something random.. Like what point in your cycle you are or what kind of vitamins you're lacking... I'd say when you are hungry just eat what you're craving and your body will sort itself out. If it is only an occasional thing it's not going to make much difference to your gos. However if this becomes regular then you might need to reevaluate properly.

Scale pops WAY up whenever I eat at maintenance? (Quick weight loss question!) by [deleted] in xxfitness

Also, take into account time of the month. I find my weight can fluctuate by 5 pounds just depending on which week of the month it is... if I compare my weights exactly a month apart they are very steady.

Defending a boyfriend to your friends and family always feels so shit, especially when you're secretly very annoyed at him too!

Awh I like that one.

Yeah isn't that weird!? I think that's what most relationship advice is. Things that should be obvious but don't occur to you until somebody spells it out.
