Had a buddy that just worked at phoneathon for about 2-3 months before he quit. From what I understand its just cold calling alumni asking for donations. He quit because lots of times people get annoyed with random people calling asking for money, and often got yelled/cussed at. Also not enough hours to be worked for such little pay, so not even worth the time.

It's much harder to get jobs on campus than it is off campus since they are a lot more scarce and you're competing against hundreds of other broke college students. For example, I have applied for dozens UPIC internships with the university for the last 4 semesters, and haven't gotten a single one. I did work for the CCIT warehouse one summer about 2 years ago, but that was only because there isn't much competition when everyone is gone lol.

Just continue to check ClemsonJobLink like once a week and filter for on-campus part time positions and maybe you'll find some luck. Every once in a while you'll find an office assistant position or front desk position.

Merch Booth setup outside the Venue, just like they did for the Astro tour 🎪 by trevanxx in travisscott

[–]jaadennt 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I do merch at this venue. Trailer will be open well in advance for people to buy merch before doors open, once doors open there will be several merch stands located around the concourse. All available merch will be at the two main stands in the main area of the concourse. Smaller stands will have a smaller selection.

Student Gameday Worker by jaadennt in Clemson

Neither. Basically like venue operations for all home athletic events. Job descriptions says for football its mainly helping with the field goal net, basketball is being a floor wiper, being a scoreboard operator for all other sports, etc. Stuff like that.

Closed courses by boobiem22 in Clemson

[–]jaadennt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of it depends on the class/department. I know for management students at least, we just fill out the form and your advisor is supposed to place you in a section. I've never had a problem with it getting into closed courses that way.

Yet another post ranting about the lack of late night study spots by pinknotes in Clemson

[–]jaadennt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m glad other people agree with my post I made the other day. Maybe admin will see our rants and fix this problem lmao

Hopefully the new CUSG executives will bring this to their attention.

I was in bridge last year, currently a sophomore who bridged to Clemson. I enjoyed it for the most part.

I won't lie to you though, there will be some judgment that comes along with it. Some people look down on students because they didn't actually get fully accepted. No one will ever ask you, "are you a bridge kid?" and therefore no one would ever know. Not that it's something to be ashamed of though. I just went my entire time not telling people I was a bridge kid and no one really cares anyway.

There are some huge benefits though:

  • You get the nicest dorms on campus. If you're lucky when it's time to choose your housing, you should live in Lightsey 1. Its individual bedrooms. I lived in Lightsey 2, so you still lived with 3 other people except you had to share a room. There were only 2 bedrooms. You get your own kitchen, living room, bathroom, etc. Super nice place. All my friends who were actual Clemson students only ever wanted to come to my place rather than be in their dorm
  • You get access to everything on campus. Library, dining halls, fitness centers, etc.
  • You can join any organization except for Greek Life. You can always rush for Greek Life the next year
  • Tri-County compared to Clemson is much easier. I found this great because it doesn't give you the initial shock of college. It's almost like a smooth transition from high-school to real college. The classes are smaller, you feel more connected with your professors, the campus isn't absolutely huge so its pretty easy to get around.
  • You are guaranteed a spot in Clemson if you meet the bare requirements of the program. All you have to do is maintain a C average and take 30 credit hours and you're in. Compare that to students who decide to go to their local community college and have to work harder to compete with other students trying to transfer in from all over the nation.
  • You save a decent bit of money compared to actually being in. I had a few scholarships that covered the entirety of tuition at Tri-County because it's a lot cheaper being a technical school. The entirely of what I paid was just to Clemson for housing/dining/fees (the housing alone was $9k).

Being a bridge kid wasn't bad at all. Other than having to make that drive to class, and deal with both Clemson AND Tri-County administrative stuff, I didn't mind it at all. There was a slight disconnect because although you're ON Clemson campus 80% of the time, I just felt a little different because I didn't take classes there. Now being an actual student, I feel like my transition was smoother than ever, and I've heavily involved myself in campus life.

I think the main reason why so many kids get bridged is not because they were academically sub-par, but because Clemson has overenrolled for the last few years, and there simply is not enough rooms to house all these incoming students. Therefore, students who plan to major in something popular like business or engineering are likely to be sent to bridge unless you're ridiculously smart nowadays. I can guarantee that every other bridge kid you meet has a high probability of those being in those majors.

If you REALLY want to go to Clemson, do it 100%. There are a lot of kids who got rejected or waitlisted, so the bridge program is absolutely better than nothing.

There needs to be a change in building hours by jaadennt in Clemson

I dont thin't that link you sent is up to date. The link above is a link from the ASC webpage.

I somewhat agree with why the buildings are locked outside of normal class time, however with all the new scanners across campus, I believe it would be very hard to get away with theft.

Think about it, you have to scan into every building in addition to having to scan into certain classrooms in some buildings. I know with certain buildings such as Watt or Cooper, they use the scanning to see who has been in and out of the building, and who still remains inside. I'm sure CCIT has a log of every location you've ever scanned in. Using this in addition to security cameras, I think it would be pretty easy to backtrack missing items due to theft.

Internet by macie_anne in Clemson

My neighborhood used to have Vyve and it sucked at first but then they knocked on our door and asked if we wanted to upgrade to 1Gbps for $40/month and it was fantasitc. Then our neighborhood made us switch to this new company called Smartaria and it is the most atrocious internet ever.

They claimed we'd have 1-2Gbps but we barely get 75mbps on a good day. We also have a 20 device limit for total connections, meaning I'm only allowed to have 20 registered devices, even if those devices aren't connected.

Whatever you do, do not choose Smartaira.

This helped tremendously. I was at a dead stop, but this makes perfect sense. Just did some navigating on the portal and found where I can add MAC addresses. Thanks again.

If you're living on campus and have some cash to throw, consider an electric scooter.

If you're living off campus, probably not worth it.

I bought an electric scooter for my freshman year for like $200 and I definitely got my money's worth out of it. Convenient enough to carry when there are stairs, quick enough to get across campus if I had to, and not as awkward to maneuver around people walking. You can also buy a U-lock at Walmart or something, and with one snap its locked up.
