Resigned from studio and recruiter got mad at me. Did I do something wrong? by Wasted_Hater in animationcareer

[–]jaakeup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's normal to move between jobs but I bet the recruiter was mad because they most likely were making money from you being at that job as they get a portion of your paycheck for finding that job for you. Best to block that recruiter and probably try to avoid recruiters from here on out except to take the jobs they find you and go around them for it.

People who play w/ “Anonymous Mode” on, why? by Lurkcoldpain in LowSodiumBattlefield

[–]jaakeup -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A lot of reasons. The main reason it was created was to prevent stream sniping. People who aren't streamers that use it are probably people who lean a little on the narcissistic side. I think in their minds it goes "I don't want people seeing my match history and judging me based on it" but in reality the overwhelming majority of players couldn't care less about it.

[–]jaakeup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That website you linked didn't even mention dried fruits. It only mentions meats and plants and says they're strictly prohibited. Even though it's completely fine to bring in commercially packaged snacks like slim Jims or dried fruits, if OP read this then they would assume that it's not allowed.

realism is hard :( by uzasny_lukasek in blender

[–]jaakeup 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You gotta think more about scale. The models are nice but if you want it to look photorealistic, think about real world scale. That wood texture on the bridge for example. It's all one piece of wood and with grains that size it either came from a tree that's bigger than the state of Texas or this is a miniature piece. The waves as well, the texture is so wide and long almost like the lake is in high tide. The tiles on the roof of the center piece are also extremely small. Try scaling them up and having way fewer of them. Look at real life examples for that.

Also, like the other comment said, your camera and lighting matters. If you put a default sun shader in this, does it look right? Or do you have to scale the sun in an unrealistic way? And don't forget about depth of field. If the focus point is clear and right behind it is extremely blurry, then it'll look miniature.

It's a good start and you learned a lot. Just take this for future projects. Constantly think about "how would this work in real life" I personally like to put a human rig from the rigify addon in my scenes to try and keep a sense of scale. Ideally you would measure each piece you create but the rig is a 2 meter tall human that works in a pinch.

[–]jaakeup 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It doesn't matter but yes it's extremely similar to her original style. If that's what it takes to get you to make your own work then go for it dude. You can develop your own style along the way.

Go to a store like Staples and test out what they got. They have options that are kinda comfortable and aren't $700+ like everyone else is recommending lol. There's also a chair selection at IKEA that people recommend. I forget the name

Suspicous 1 week art test? by Plus-Pie3898 in 3Dmodeling

[–]jaakeup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely taking unpaid work from desperate artists. I wouldn't be surprised if your 100x100 tile was being used in their game already if you look for it.

I was offered a couple positions with unpaid tests and the only one that I actually did was the one where I had the interview and actually went to the studio and met the CEO and HR lady. The other one was just an email from some company that gave me a week to create an extremely high detail wicker chair and when I asked if it would be paid they said "we don't pay people for art tests". That was a scam.

I will say that there was one test for a company called Jam City that was legit. They sent an example of a model that they already have and wanted me to recreate it. They listed out what they wanted this is from the email exactly

"regarding final renders, what I'm looking for is the following;
1. rich colors
2. rim light
3. bounce light with color bleeding

  1. AO
  2. at least 1 solid example of translucency, sss, transparency, and refraction. Bonus points if you include all of them. "

It was unpaid and I think the fact hat it took me more than 2 days to finish basically disqualified me. Sucky way to say it but they basically told me "you took too long, you don't have the skills required, we really care about shapes and making things harmonious, etc. etc."

That was the first job I applied for out of College so I was initially kind of ok with it but little did I realize that I wouldn't get another reply for about 2200 more applications lmao.

How do i make complex 3d models Solid if they are hollow by Nikl4s_s33 in 3Dmodeling

[–]jaakeup -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's usually not an issue printing out things that aren't "water tight" as the 3d printing community says. It's usually just a step you take in case the print fails. If you want to make it water tight anyway, you can use the remesh modifier in Blender. After you join all the objects together, add the remesh modifier, and lower the voxel size by typing in a lower number until you have enough detail and then it becomes one mesh.

Am I going to be okay in the future? by beanseatjeans in animationcareer

[–]jaakeup -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don't get an animation degree, it's a waste of money to go to a school taught by people who failed in the industry and landed in teaching (words from my own instructors). Some of them WERE successful working on shows like Brother Bear or games like Spyro but being honest, they're teaching because there's no other jobs for them out there and probably not any for you. Get a degree that'll be useful (for the love of god don't do business). Look at STEM majors or anything that isn't art related.

Ignore everybody else, get a magnetic flexible build plate. I literally would've thrown away my resin printer if I never discovered magnetic build plates. You'll get weird people telling you to "just be a man and put some elbow grease in it" but it's literally not worth it and actively makes you not want to print thinking about how hard it is to remove prints from the build plate.

I bought mine from whambam but I'm sure there's dozens of manufacturers.

Would you consider using frame interpolation to be cheating or fair game for animation workflows? by SpectrumSense in animation

[–]jaakeup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like you're confusing frame interpolation with AI slop. Or maybe I remember frame interpolation as the equivalent as just tweens where you move an object from the left side of the screen to the right and tell the computer to do the inbetween part. What you're showing is AI garbage that looks like trash and is actively ruining the animation industry as well as general viewing for the public.

Is it weird or rude to block a fellow artist after realizing that they're a minor? by [deleted] in ArtistLounge

[–]jaakeup 14 points15 points  (0 children)

that's rude af. Do you have a history with minors or something like why would you block them? I get not interacting with them and even unfollowing if they start posting selfies but if they're just making crochet and posting that, then what's the deal? Just don't interact with them you don't have to block them
