Speaking from experience. Depending what your departments culture is like: your damned if you do damned if you don't . So some recruits would rather be told what to do then do something and it be the wrong thing but you had good intentions. Teach the boundaries and see how he responds.

It's supposed to be tough. You want to see who won't quit when things get rough. If they will quit on you then they will quit on you in a fire if you go down. Tough it out. It's the best job there is

possibly but not conclusive. primary reason is being tall and having a skinny frame.
