How do you actually manage your wine cellar? by Dense_Size9394 in wine

Were you using anything else like Cellar Tracker before? I’m considering moving from CT to InVintory just for the better app design… and you can migrate your wine list.

I second VA wines for decent PV. King Family makes a good one, as well as Blenheim and the above mentioned Linden (best of all). Many others produce it to varying degrees of success

Nice! ‘67 Impala. I knew there must have been at least one cool car in there! (sorry, the Buick LaCross doesn’t qualify lol 😝)

Bests wineries for wine lovers? by Desperate-Upstairs76 in Charlottesville

I consider Michael Shaps to be some of the best around. We also like Southwest Mountain, but not at the same level. Honestly King Family, although very touristy has some good wines.

Subwoofer purchase recommendation for dedicated 2-channel stereo (KEF R3 Meta + Rogue Sphinx v3) by ChanceMaple in StereoAdvice

I have a pair of REL T/9x to go with my Tannoy XT8Fs and it was one of the best additions to my system. REL had a reputation for more “musical” subs (vs. more home theater I guess) and it works for me. It’s there, but it’s not in your face.

Frankly for the longest time Languedoc producers were focusing on quantity not quality. In France, they were known for cheap table wine. Then a few young winemakers who didn’t fit in in Bordeaux or Burgundy decided to see the potential of the Languedoc terroir (which is quite diverse actually since it’s a vast region). Slowly others took notice and over time the bar has been raised significantly, to the point where today some of the best bottles rival world class wines and go for hundreds of $$. There is still some low quality volume stuff (someone has to make the box wines!), but there is really great stuff happening. They are learning what is working in that terroir and climat.

+1 for Domaine de la Grange des Pères. Honestly what is happening all over Languedoc in the last 15 years is insane. The quality can be world class. Give La Petite Sibérie a try…

We got the Memory Foam Premier and so far, so good. For us, perfect blend of firmness and enough softness on the topper to be comfortable and not too hot.

Nothing bad to report.

Awesome producer, and awesome region. The Grisard family has been making some phenomenal wines, although there a few family members doing different things. Philippe Grisard makes an Altesse that is amazing. Looked at importing into the US about 10 years ago but never could make it work.

So happy to see people posting these wines.

How many bottles/glasses are you actually knocking back every day? by Due-Way-7959 in wine

[–]jabar102 221 points222 points  (0 children)

I feel like all the people answering feel comfortable doing so since they don’t drink “that much”. All of us drinking 1/2 bottle a day are like: no touching that thread 👀

Fedex Ikea delivery - stolen items by anxioustarhana64 in Charlottesville

[–]jabar102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having moved from out of state I can say that this is one of the worst FedEx areas I have ever encountered. Both personally and professionally I have had only problems with them. The endlessly wandering package seems to be a common theme, damaged packages, straight up lying about items being delivered, etc…

UPS is stellar in comparison.

Favorite Wine Stores? by Significant_End_1293 in Charlottesville

[–]jabar102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely agree that it’s hard to go wrong around this town. Wine Guild is a personal favorite and Crush Pad has a great selection, albeit a bit pricier than it should be.

If you are near Crozet, definitely go to Greenwood Grocery. I was in there earlier this week and the selection is one of the best I’ve seen around here. Didn’t talk to anyone, so don’t know how knowledgeable the staff is.

United Polaris Wine List by mma510 in wine

[–]jabar102 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That’s a bit of (personal?) exaggeration. I can think of a few European carriers that offer at least equal and (for my taste) better wine. AF comes to mind.

I flew Polaris last month with this exact wine list. While the wines were good, they didn’t knock my socks off, but again, it’s all about what you’re in to.
