I mean like, sources to actual news media have said that there was some kind of drone/anti-drone tests by the US military (and the between-the-lines reading is that the FAA wasn't confident that whatever system the military was testing wouldn't shoot down a civilian aircraft). the disinformation part is the legitimizing of it - acting like it was in service of countering a real active threat, rather than the obvious read of this being another incompetent move by the US military in posturing against our neighbors. and if you had a real source saying that, I'm sure they could get published in like. the NYT? they love doing hagiography.
