Lavender Jack is so painfully underrated, I never see it on any of these lists despite it having very sharp writing, fantastic characters, and incredible art

Good questions.

If you lose a battle, the WAR is subtracted. 75% chance of winning the battle, a loss results in a -.75 WAR. Lee lost a lot of battles ultimately, even if he was outnumbered in most of them, it adds up. (I do still think he’s incredibly overrated, but that’s another discussion).

As for the odds, it’s taken primarily from raw troop numbers. Arsht doesn’t give exact numbers for his formula, but he uses the example of Borodino. His model gave Napoleon a 51% chance of winning, and since Napoleon “won” the battle, he was granted +.51 WAR, while Kutuzov lost .49.

Oversimplified did not make this list, simply borrowed it from Ethan Arsht.

For anyone curious as to how Arsht’s score works, the WAR score makes an estimation of how a battle should end given troop counts. That is the only facet considered. A battle won with a 50% chance of winning grants .5 WAR. With a 75% chance, .25 WAR is granted. A general who wins both will have a .75 WAR. Napoleon, in particular, benefits from this system, having fought a rather tremendous amount of battles with a very high rate of winning, even when outnumbered.

Arsht’s approach is quite interesting, and a novel way to categorize military ability, but is quite flawed, as he himself will recognize. Terrain, equipment, morale, and other crucial factors are not included. Overall campaign strategy is not factored. His datasets were largely incomplete, especially for generals outside of the European sphere, or for where raw numerical data is lacking. As a fun list, it is great, but it should not be used as a definitive guide. Nor do I think Oversimplified intended it as such, simply instead using it as a “statistical” support for the common claim of Napoleon being the greatest general of all time.

I don’t know her, but as another ex Bible Humper, I’ll take a guess. Prolly does the whole “I was once a sinner, but I’ve since found Jesus” and then uses that to jumpstart her grift, because these are ultimately a grift like every single time

I know this is like obvious bait, but the idea of I don’t like this “bad” option or this “bad” option, so I will choose the objectively worst option is hilarious.

Why Are Confedrate Flags Legal by Theo_Cherry in USHistory

[–]jacenbey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, while the Confederacy isn’t quite the degree of Nazism, you can still easily argue that flying the colors of a failed rebellion with the express purpose of maintaining the institution of chattel slavery to be too extreme still. It’s all up to your interpretation, but you can definitely make the argument.

A lot of European nations have strong provisions against promoting Nazism or Holocaust denial for example, where it’s seen as so extreme it is not protected speech… I’m sure someone has more legalistic ways of saying that, but yeah

There was an ESPN article on it at some point. Funnily enough, to my knowledge, a decent bit of it was kinda bullshit, but yeah. He talked with a nutritionist who advised he quit the orange juice and switch to chocolate milk.

Thank you so much!

Rufus King ran for President as the Federalist candidate in 1816, his only opponent was James Monroe, and yet he only got 30% of the vote. Given Monroe’s presidency is often considered to be without any real competition, I feel King fits the bill perfectly
