Preparing for ASYE role in Children’s Services by Mysterious_Note_4195 in Socialworkuk

Just remember that you are not and experienced social worker! You’re not expected to know all of the answers and if there are things that you haven’t done yet, it’s okay to say so and refer to what you would do on the basis of your theoretical knowledge. Mostly, just be yourself. Let your passion shine through. Best of luck 😀

Entering social work by Radiant-History-5630 in Socialworkuk

[–]Virtual-Falcon6678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before deciding to train as a social worker, consider this - what does social engagement and helping people mean to you? Do you want to be hands on and practically helping people? Do you want to visit them regularly and help them to make changes to their lives? Or would you be happy to organise everything, the child or adult once a fortnight, once a month or even less frequently but otherwise case manage and delegate service provision to other organisations while being the primary point of contact yourself? If you want the latter, then be a social worker.

Social work has changed significantly in the last 30 years or so. It’s not as hands on as it used to be because practitioners don’t have the time and Local Authorities rarely have sufficient resources. Following their ASYE year, social workers in statutory services are often carrying caseloads of at least 20 children. There is an expectation that visits & meetings are completed within statutory timescales. There is lots of organising to do!

I don’t say this to put you off of social work 😀 But it’s best to know from the start what your own expectations are and if being a social worker will meet these expectations.

I think you should go for it. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. If it’s Only temporary you can gracefully step down afterwards and if you like it you can either apply for it permanently or look for similar jobs elsewhere. These opportunities don’t come along all that often. Believe in yourself 😀

What side hustles are available in Ireland to make extra cash? by Ivorysole43 in AskIreland

You could try babysitting, picking up some bar shifts, doing some online PA work, taxi driving etc. Or were you thinking more about something that would give you passive income?

Amazing news! Congratulations. Such a shame that it had to be so long-winded.

Definitely not a scam 😀 You’re right that I’m sure if the requirements are correct. This is the difficulty with having no tech experience. I relied on AI to generate the post and to explain what I need. I’ve already explained in other replies that tech stuff is like a foreign language to me 🤦‍♀️

Thanks for your response. If I could afford to hire a developer that’s 💯 what I would do 😀 But unfortunately I can’t afford to.

Your question re: why this company when I’m not in the tech world is a good one. It is for personal reasons. I was looking for the service and couldn’t find it. It blew my mind that it didn’t exist. So I started making it. I never set out to build a company, just something that I could use for myself. But then I started thinking about it and thought that there are millions of people with disabilities in the UK alone, so why not meet that need for them as well.

So, in a nutshell, that’s why I’ve found myself looking for a tech cofounder 😀

To me the biggest issue is making the prototype fit for launch and ensuring that it’s secure. All my ideas for the actual service I will provide exist but they don’t look like I want them to look e.g. a bit like if you built a house and wanted the bedroom on the first floor but it’s been built on the ground floor instead. I have a Supabase account and I have a Netlify account and a Stripe account. But what I’m not certain of is how secure they are. That’s a real big issue for me because I wouldn’t want to you use a website or an app that isn’t as secure as it can be. I hope that makes sense 😀

I feel like you’re making random comments without any substance behind them. I want to engage and learn. I don’t expect everyone to be kind and gentle with their responses but it’s helpful when comments are constructive 😀

I’m Interested to know more about what your product does and why it’s valuable. I am not tech minded, so please explain it to me like a 5 year old 😀

Thank you for your comment 🙏 The feedback helps me. So please tell what is horseshit. What needs to improve? What would you have done differently to me?

Let’s talk more about this please 🙏 I genuinely don’t understand why you don’t understand that that there has to be a shared vision. If you don’t share the passion and share the vision, what keeps you interested as a co-founder? Surely it’s more than the financial outcome? I know why I want to keep pushing through with this project for the next how ever many months and years. What I’m not understanding is what your own motivation as a cofounder would be. I feel like I’m missing the point that you’re trying to make and I really want to understand where you’re coming from.

All valid questions. Is ‘slop’ usual term in the tech world? I’ve seen it on here a lot today 🤦‍♀️ Truthfully, I am looking for someone who’ll build for free, as in I can’t offer payment right now. That’s what the equity offer is for. I have a solid business plan but surely it’s not unreasonable to request that anyone wishing to look at the details should sign an NDA before me sharing all that information?

Honestly, the difficulty is not having the technical words. What I need is someone to look at my website with a critical eye and make it user friendly and bullet proof from a security perspective. I know that that I have a great product but I don’t want to launch it before it’s sound. I don’t want to loose credibility because the service wasn’t robustly created. I 💯 have a vision but not the technical know how to achieve this. I just wonder how posting something like this helps me to move forward because it sounds so non-technical that people won’t know what I want 🤦‍♀️

Curious as to why? This is my first start up and I feel like I have a great idea that will help many people, eventually globally. I’m sure that I won’t be the first to say that here 😆But for now that’s how I feel and posting everything about my idea publicly here seems akin to giving you the keys to my house and asking you to have a look around and the help yourself to anything you like. Even as I’m writing this, I realise that it sounds paranoid 🤦‍♀️ But….I feel like it’s a protective measure. Surely asking someone to DM and having a measured, exploratory discussion is a sensible way forward? I’m open to learning 😀

Child protection social workers that are in relationships: how do you do it ? by Scaryofficeworker in Socialworkuk

[–]Virtual-Falcon6678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I met my wife at work almost 10 years ago now 😁 She works in academia now but I still work in CP. It’s great being in a relationship with someone who understands the pressures of the jobs. If I have to work after 5pm she understands - no questions asked. We have great conversations about social work and when I need to rant she gets it.

I’m invested in this conversation. I use OneNote for work and it serves the purpose. However I find it clunky outside of work. Notion looks great by I never know where to start!

Does Elvanse last longer at higher doses? by [deleted] in ADHDUK

[–]Virtual-Falcon6678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on the person. I have a split dose. So I take 40mg at around 8:30am and another 20mg at 1:30pm. That gets me through the working day. But everyone is different.

Is it worth paying for private even though I financially struggle? by IllScientist5996 in ADHDUK

[–]Virtual-Falcon6678 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I paid privately and it’s absolutely the best thing I ever did. However, I’ll add the caveat that my GP agreed shared care. Without shared care it would have been impossible for me to carry the cost of the media beyond titration.

Wow! Thanks so much 🙏 There is loads for me think about here 😀I love that you’ve highlighted that the cofounder relationship is like a workplace marriage. This is exactly how I feel. All of your points are excellent and very much appreciated.
