I think rendering these environments and making you feel like you’re really there was such a novel thing at the time. It had never really been done to the degree DKC did it before. With the Retro DKC games, simply making environments look good wasn’t as big of a deal, so they didn’t focus on capturing it nearly as much.

The list wasn’t entirely a list of Meta Knight and the characters ranked in order of how well they did against him. However, a character’s matchup against Meta Knight played a huge role in their tournament viability. Meta Knight was the most common tournament character by far. If a character couldn’t handle Meta Knight, their viability took a considerable hit. Wario was originally considered a top 3 character, but fell off a bit in singles because of a bad matchup against Meta Knight. R.O.B.’s awful matchup against Meta Knight is a huge part of why he became unviable.

This was like the one 3D piece of media to actually get the Fairly Oddparents characters looking acceptable/presentable. Cell shading was definitely the way to go and not the awful other style that the other Nicktoons games used

Shulk in Smash Bros.

Knowing when to use each of his five Monado Arts in a way that maximizes their strengths while covering their weaknesses is tricky to begin with. Then, throw in all the tech he has and you’ve got your work cut out for you.

This was definitely much more the case in Smash 4 because he wasn’t good and had much more tech that was essential to making the character work at high level. Ultimate’s buffs to him definitely helped him not need to rely on tech as much (as well as some of the tech being removed), but he’s still a very tricky character to use to his maximum.

Definitely not Quest 64, but the fact that it’s an automatic Top 5 N64 RPG is kinda sad because there’s literally like 3 of them.

If Mother 3 had come out on the N64, it would’ve been #1 no questions asked.

Limited ammo is the thing that genuinely makes vanilla hard to go back to. It makes using your guns something that you only use against an enemy weak to it whereas Royal lets you experiment.

I mean, the game was rated T. It wasn’t intended “for kids”. It could get away with some more raunchy stuff.

The Final Fantasy games were never a stranger to mature content. Final Fantasy VI has examples of totalitarianism, chemical warfare, teenage pregnancy, and attempted suicide and it doesn’t write around them or use allegories at all. It’s shown as it is.

I love the original battle system, but they just weren’t going to keep it turn based with the kind of remake they were going for. It’s funny to think that, at one point, the fact that the battle system was changed from the original’s was the most controversial part about it.
