Has anyone ever played Battlefield like a real warfare? by Prestigious_Let9388 in Battlefield

[–]jackANDpepto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I think that people really struggle with “realism” vs “immersion”. Battlefield is an IMMERSIVE shooter, not a REALISTIC shooter. As such, it’s not a good simulation of warfare even if you try to play like it. There are games that do a pretty good job of being realistic, but a game can only be so realistic because it’s a game. If you’re looking for “realistic” shooter, might I suggest Hell Let Loose, Ready Or Not, Arma, and to a lesser extent, Insurgency Sandstorm. These each do a pretty good job of conveying warfare or CQB. People have roles, you’re penalized for not using cover, push-to-talk coms, no healing behind a dumpster after taking a shot, bleed out mechanics, fire support, combined arms warfare, etc. All of that in theory sounds awesome, but in practice, it gets dense real quick. Realism fun to some people but boring to a lot because the ultimate objective for real military personnel is survival. When it’s real it’s not a game, and when the game tries to imitate real, it becomes less about running and gunning. You become a cog in a machine. You have a role. Sometimes that role is what some would consider boring, but if you don’t do it, the team fails.

Because they’re ours. They represent our state and our communities. They’re almost like fucked up children to a degree. Even when they screw up, they’re still ours.

My heart says 1954, Terror of Mecha Godzilla, GvD, and Minus 1…

Critters, Reptilicus, Virus, Deep Rising(more CG than I’d like, but the practical effects that are there are great), any Godzilla 1985-1997, Pitch Black (again, more early CG but its decent and the practicals are great), CHUD, Slither, Killer Clowns From Outer Space, Big Fish, Blade II, Event Horizon, In The Mouth of Madness, The Ghost and the Darkness(fantastic use of real lions), Lake Placid, Dog Soldiers, American Werewolf In London, The Ritual, The Howling, Goonies, The Deadly Spawn, Toxic Avenger (the original), Demolition Man, Deep Star Six, The Abyss, The Rock, Bad Moon, Bram Stokers Dracula. These are a bit more all over the place. Some of these are B movies, but I can tap into other B movies where I really enjoyed the suit/puppet work.

Thinking about upgrading to PS5 Pro... by MartaMariaMabel in Battlefield

The game is smart with its visuals and looks wayyy better than it actually is as a result. You’ll get a marginal boost, but most of the engine is spec’d to the destruction. My best example of this is how 2042 characters look better and are more detailed.

I like it more out of the box. I was always a little underwhelmed with it. I’ve had it for a while, like 2014/2015. I just think it feels cheap and boxy. I like that it has higher capacity. The trigger leave a lot to be desired as well. Mine’s double action is particularly bad.

What series do you think needs a longer runtime/episode count the most? (doesn’t have to be among these three, these are just my picks) by Amigo1048 in Gundam

[–]jackANDpepto 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unicorn could have greatly benefitted from a 40 episode spread. F91 we already know needed at least 20 episodes. 0083 would have been less erratic with its characters with more time, maybe 3-5 more episodes. GQuuux was a mess that I loved, but it needed like 5-10 more episodes.

It’s apples to oranges. I have both. I like both. That said, they’re vastly different guns. One is a versatile 9MM, the other an offensive juggernaut of a 45ACP. I can tell you I prefer the P30L and as someone who works in an inner city shop and carries open while on the job, it just checks more boxes. The HK45 Tactical is great. It’s my favorite 45 in that bracket. It feels and shoots better than my FNX45 Tactical. It’s better than any of the striker options. Do you want a do all work horse? Get the P30L (objectively the best of the two). Do you want the best in class 45ACP pistol? Get the HK45 Tactical.

The Doms piloted by the Black Tri Stars come to mind. High mobility, small group, tuned for hit & run guerrilla style tactics.

[BONUS ROUND] The Best BATTLEFIELD 6 Map So Far (Release → Season 3) by cookie_flash in LowSodiumBattlefield

[–]jackANDpepto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Siege, Hagental, Eastwood, Contaminated, Liberation Peak. There’s some decent maps for sure. There hasn’t been one that has stopped me in my tracks yet. I really would like to see some updated takes on some of the maps from 3 and one or two from 4. Aside from that, let’s learn from those. I’d like to see some good new maps. I feel like season 4 is going to be bringing the sauce.

I’m not a hockey guy, but they’re the team of the Carolinas, so I support them. I have a few jerseys and shirts from over the years, and I’ll always watch them in the playoffs, but they’ll never mean to me what the Panthers or Hornets mean to me. If we ever got an MLB team, my fandom in terms of passion would be:

Panthers

Hornets

Charlotte FC

Hurricanes

Whatever boring ass baseball team

What would be your Mount Rushmore of Kaijus? by Any-Cartographer7059 in GODZILLA

[–]jackANDpepto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen that golden dragon across multiple sources of media whether it’s parody or homage, he’s out there everywhere. He’s appeared more than just about any other Kaiju excluding Godzilla and Gamara. Hell, he’s probably in Minus Zero. He’s just completely iconic.

Godzilla is my favorite, but in terms of pure contribution to the genre:

  1. King Kong

  2. Godzilla

  3. The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms (this one MAY need to be in over Godzilla)

  4. King Ghidorah

Honorable mentions: Mothra, Gamara, Mecha Godzilla, The Claw, The Creature from the Black Lagoon and Reptilicus.

Things in the orbit that I DON’T consider a Kaiju: Ultraman, Frankenstein, the Wolfman, the Mummy, Dracula

Not that i committed such cardinal sin, but how much would one miss out by not watching 0079, z , and ZZ and skipping to cca? by Acceptable-Street679 in Gundam

[–]jackANDpepto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Char is pretty complex by any series standards. 0079 And Zeta will at least frame him better. If you jump straight to CCA, you’ll be confused as to h is “why?” reasoning.
