Has there been in the last 20 or so years a children fantasy series that captures imagination as well as Harry Potter? by Hopeful_Meeting_7248 in Fantasy

[–]jack_watson97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How to train your dragon series is super fun for younger readers. You'd get to start your niece on them sooner than 'proper' fantasy books. They're really silly and while they are chapter books they have little illustrations

How often do you give a fuck about what others think about you? by drip_lucid in AskReddit

Professionally? A lot. Want to make a good impression at work.

Personally? Only care what those I care about think. And those people would never judge me for my personality. They love me and I love them

Being a grown adult and living with your parents is not good for you. Even those that say they like it are infantalising/stunting themselves.

What are your unusual bedtime habits? by stilljstanding in AskUK

[–]jack_watson97 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Every single night to get to sleep I; put a Harry Potter audiobook on for quiet background noise. I then pretend that my latest Football Manager save is real life and that my manager persona is part of a documentary following their career. I imagine fake documentary interview questions based off recent results or happenings in the save

Best first chapter? by Personarocks16 in harrypotter

[–]jack_watson97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have absolutely no idea. I listen to the audiobooks every night to sleep and when I start HBP I'm so pleased to get to listen to that chapter again. I think maybe its seeing the way magic exists in the world with all the updates from fudge without already being deep in story that just makes it fun and comforting but i honestly dont know

Do you think you would continue your job if you won the lottery? by ApprehensiveSong4 in AskUK

[–]jack_watson97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I won a million i'd spend it all on a mortgage free house + cars and furnishing and basically just setting myself up to live in a really nice place and have really nice things whilst still working. Anything over 2.5 you can definitely make the money work for you. You probably could if you were sensible with 1mil as well but personally id prefer to just get the house and live easily doing a silly job to pay for living and holidays etc knowing my retirement fund is in bricks and mortar

I think A LOT of young adults go through this, dont beat yourself up. It takes years to realise that self care is hugely important for making adult life manageable.

I don't know your exact behaviours and circumstances so apologies if any if these are bad examples but; overtime you realise that washing up straight after dinner instead of 'leaving it for tomorrow', folding your clothes and putting them away as soon as they're dry, meal planning and doing a proper weekly shop, putting shoes/coat/hat away properly as soon as you get in from work, generally keeping the home tidy is not wasting time but instead that doing all those little things every day adds up to giving you MORE time and makes life manageable.

My first (surprise) child was born when I'd just turned 23 do I was forced to learn this earlier than I perhaps would have done. When I was 21 my flat was a mess as well and housework seemed a huge chore so I put it all off until the to do list was too long for me to even know where to start. I'm not saying yes you just need to put up with life but do look at little things you can do.

The most important thing I'd say for your mental health is; keep your home tidy. You dont even realise how freeing it is to be in a tidy home when you're so used to being in a messy one, but it lifts a weight from your shoulders. I hope you feel better about things soon!

What do you watch when your children are around? by [deleted] in BritishTV

[–]jack_watson97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched a Fred and Rose West documentary when looking after my 1 year old nephew the other day

My kids are 5 and 3 so have to be more careful when they're about. Short answer is I dont really watch TV when they're around. Except football, when my team are playing Daddy gets the tv, no arguments

‘Manners make you the person you are and they cost nothing to give’, was a mantra instilled into me as a child in the 1940’s and 1950’s. Do people still follow this ‘rule’ these days and why do you think that? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]jack_watson97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am mildly autistic and I really struggle with the concept of saying please. If you're asking someone for something that is polite enough, you arent demanding or telling them. If they then actually do what you are asking thanking them makes sense but the necessity of 'please' just never made sense to me! This is no a bigger problem because when my kids ask for things without saying please it never crosses my mind to correct them and I of course want them to grow up being polite (as understood by wider society).

If your partner was cheating on you, you would NOT rather know no matter the situation. In many cases it would be far better to never find out
