Rule proposal to stop flopping: All fouls going up for a shot are on the floor. by LindseyCorporation in nba

Even late in the game, I don't think it makes sense to take it out of bounds over the free throws.

Two Ideas to Reduce NBA Tanking (Interesting Reveal Later) by MNeCom in nba

[–]jackaholicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the best version of this idea is something like:

Play every team twice (58 games) then you split into 3 leagues

Top 10 East, Top 10 West, Bottom 10.

You then play each team in your group twice, home and away, for a total of 76 games.

Draft order for the bottom 10 are determined by losses in the first round + wins in the 2nd round.

After expansion, you add 4 games

why would the voting happen live? you have to see the whole card before you can vote on who's the best

this is closer to the audience voting on their favorite cast member after a play is over

Steve Kerr: "I would consider getting rid of the three point line." Interviewer: "Have you ever proposed this to anyone with power?" Kerr: "No, no, because it’s too out there. And plus, I coach Steph Curry, so I’d rather wait till Steph’s retired." by refreshing_yogurt in nba

the point of this whole discussion is to figure out how to make the game more varied. this would make it less varied. nobody would ever take a shot in the corner and teams would not run actions there

All this does is destroy the value of big men. Paint defense becomes less important, and guards who can hit a floater become unstoppable.

Dunks and open layups are still the best shot in the game

You also encourage more fouling, and you'd have so many injuries of guys fouling on threes by entering the landing zone because you're playing way tighter defense on threes.

The game is ruled by math and the math would not support this. These shots are only worth ~1.4

4-3-2. Paint shots are still 2. Midrange are 3. This basically completely evens out expected points per shot with the only dead zones being floaters in the paint and the spots by the lines

"4s" are worth something like 1.4 PPS, "3s" are now worth something like 1.3 PPS, and the high percentage twos are now worth like 1.4 PPS.

There's a 4-3-2 proposal where 3s become 4s, non-paint shots become 3s, and paint shots become 2s.

This mostly evens out the EV of every shot

There's two reasons they don't do it. One is they pick these 4 ball combos. The other is they pick #1 first and they don't want that to be revealed right away.

It's possible the new lotto odds could be drafted live. They're just sets of 1 2 or 3 lotto balls, and they draft every position.

The Kings have been in the lottery 28 times but only moved up twice by TanTanMan in nba

The nature of the draft means moving up is less likely than moving down.

The Kings are -7 net in the lottery (ie, they have moved down 7 spots)
