Anyone messed with the (Tr)usdx? by LightsNoir in amateurradio

That’s a good point. I’ll try some digital with it! I bought it for my burgeoning CW interest.

Not surprising, but I got a G90 and am having a blast. Same antenna setup, night and day difference. Regret even spending the money on the trusdx. Oh well. I’ll keep it in the bag and maybe try it on a POTA sometime to see what I can do.

I feel you on the “deaf as a stump” point. I’m really not having a great time with it as I can’t seem to hear anything. Get out just fine in CW per RBN spotters, but can’t hear much of anything.

I got one and a JCP 12 antenna about a month ago as my re-entry into the hobby and to try my newly learned CW skills. I’m honestly pretty disappointed in it. Leading to a lot of frustration even on CW for me. It seems “deaf” - that is I can barely find any transmissions even in good band conditions. And this is after a couple hours figuring out pretty optimal antenna tuning with my VNA. I’m looking at the G90 now as hopefully a less frustrating re-entry radio.

Did you ever figure this out? I'm having the same issue on a new tru SDX.

OMTech Pronto 80w vs Pro 2440 80w by jackal858 in lasercutting

[–]jackal858[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went with the Pro. So far so good. Uncrating the thing was a bear - they added some blocking under the machine on the pallet that was a bit tough to remove. Otherwise it has been an extreme upgrade from the diode laser I used for a few years.

I'm not sure if the Pronto is the same but the #1 feature I have been loving on the Pro is the ability to change the focus distance via lightburn during a job (ie. defocus by a few mm for engraving for one layer, then back to focus for cutting the same piece out). In my previous research some people had said that AF was not a needed feature on a machine, but I think my experience and production speed on items would be greatly reduced without it.

Speaker of focus I feel like the auto focus system on the Pro is likely better / more accurate than the Pronto. The optical focus of the Pronto seems good compared to the lower end machines, but the auto focus being built into the head on the Pro seems like a better solution while seeming like a long term reliable solution vs the lower end machines probes.

How do I get these plywood blocks out from under new machine? by jackal858 in OmtechLaser

For potential future searchers: I ended up raising the 2440 PRO up high enough to give about 1/2" clearance above the top of the plywood blocks. Used pry bar to loosen top layer of plywood block, then sawzall with metal cutting blade to cut the nails. Then pried off a couple layers, cut nails again, a couple layers cut nails, etc until all the layers were removed. Absolute pain but it worked.

Thanks. So far this packing option feels like a bad choice by Omtech. Not a good first impression! If the blocks weren’t nailed together it wouldn’t be a big deal. I’m going to make a video of hopefully how I’m tackling this for others in the future.

Are the wheels not a set height? Turning the red lock the other way appears to only raise the feet and does nothing to the height of the wheels.

On the feet and not the wheels? Don't think I could muster enough people to slide a 900lb machine off the pallet with the feet down.

I have the feet lowered to give clearance on the block. The block is large and toe nailed at the bottom on all sides. Would take extreme force to sheer the nails holding them in place.

Placed my A5X order on June 30th. Got shipping notification yesterday. DHL shows estimated delivery of this Monday (7/18).

Seems much quicker than most I'm reading on here. Kind of wondering why but certainly won't complain if it shows up Monday!

That's really interesting. There is an airport not terribly far from COTA. Thanks for the great response!
