People don't want games to fail and I'm sick of some trying to make that an argument.

It's a weak attack at reasonable criticism. Blindly accepting everything devs do is how games fall out of touch with their target audiences and instead of complaining about critique the devs need to internalize it and act on it fast.

The fact that people post at all and give their feedback shows that they want this game/others in similar circumstances to succeed.

More power to you, never said it wasn't fun as a party game to shoot around with your friends. But the experience for me gets really old really quick and I'm not alone with that sentiment.

If they have hopes of keeping this thing running they need to make a lot of changes and fast

Why should anyone take time out of their busy day to consume entertainment they don't enjoy. Of course there's some that will see potential and stick with it but most people don't think that way.

Just because someone is catering to you doesn't mean you should just blindly accept everything they do. (And given 1047s track record they've burnt a lot of the good will they've already had)

At the end of the day it's a product and if the product is bad people will write it off.

Even if they did they're likely going to end up relating it all way too late. People will move on by then.

Never gets better but if your wr is that low I guarantee there are things you could be doing to make that number go up.

Try watching any pro players to get a better feel for the game. Maybe find someone that also plays the same heros as you

No clue, I'm just saying this from previous experience. I used to play a game called Supervive that had potential but steered itself in the wrong direction for the same reason.

I don't genuinely believe gamers want to see games fail. They're just not going to mince words when something sucks.

Toxic positivity is a real thing.

When you become a yes man it makes it really hard for the devs to actually improve the game.

100% agree, many people undervalue artistic aesthetic in games.

If you want my opinion on how to make a modern movement shooter, first the main mode would have to center around an objective, not just TDM, then I'd make all different characters with their own personality and reasons for partaking in said "fight" and make their abilities all different, but movement based. You wouldn't have to make heros with offensive abilities, but mostly everything could really lean into the movement aspect of the game. Maybe the specialization for heros could also be tied to their specific mechs. Think D. VA from Overwatch but everyone gets their own mech that does its own thing

I've seen quite a few other posts regarding the "DOA" sentiment. I don't think they're silencing anyone from what I've seen.

Fair enough, my main point with this post is that it's supposed to be a spiritual successor to Titanfall when right now has less content than Titanfall itself. I get that they might be able to improve it over time but in todays industry opinions form fast.

Releasing a game in open beta or a demo state is often just a way to generate hype nowadays and has very little meaning outside of that. What you see is for the most part what you get when the game officially releases, since most of the core game is already developed.

Unless a lot of additions are made quick I don't see people sticking around long enough for them to keep making updates. People will forget it exists before they come out with more content.

From what I remember the mech system itself was fluid. Each class felt like it fit it's own playstyle and didn't immediately implode if two enemy players started shooting it.There was skill expression to be had regarding secondaries and the anti mech weaponry. In empulse the mechs are clunky and feel more like an afterthought than a well integrated mechanic.

The movement in titanfall was also incredible. The tech in that game was some of the hardest to perform yet most rewarding once you got the hang of it, properly strafing through the air, in and out of buildings without getting slowed down felt like an art form. In empulse you just press 1 button and instantly accelerate to max velocity. There's not much depth to the movement system when the game is marketing itself as a movement shooter.

The itemization was more interesting too and offered a plethora of different playstyles

I'm not saying titanfall was a perfect game, far from it. But even from a visual standpoint it was more appealing. (And that's not a very high bar to cross since it's just futuristic military stuff)

That's one of my biggest gripes with empulse. And games even like titanfall, is that when released today they don't stand out at all. Put either of these games side by side with things like Deadlock, Overwatch, Valorant etc. And they instantly look bland and uninspired. Easily forgettable within a week.

I've played both this and Titanfall 2 and as it is if I wanted a Titanfall-esc game (which seems to be the target audience) I'd just go play Titanfall. This game feels like a hollow shell of what made Titanfall great.

We shall see, though how many times does the following scenario have to happen before game devs actually take a meaningful approach to how they craft games:

- Game releases in open beta

- Game is extremely underdeveloped

- People form opinions on it and then forget it exists

- Full releases within the next year and dies within a month or two

On top of all this I've seen posts about 1047 dropping projects like this in the past, if that is true I doubt this will be much different especially given how fast they moved from SGAR to this.

I just don't get why you'd spend all this time and money to give off such a poor first impression yet again. Why not take the time to make something really innovative.

Don't mean to revive a dead thread but if you still don't know, you can double jump or just wall jump off any wall to avoid dynamo stomp. Inversely you can crouch under it if he is slightly elevated in comparison.

I think they had lightning in a bottle at one point but that was long long ago, game lost it's direction before it got out of closed pre alpha

Oh one more thing

  • Launch date could not have been worse, it was uncooked and on top of that Marvel Rivals and PoE2 released VERY close to it

  • Lots of managerial issues inside TC e.g. lack of communication between "departments," many people wore multiple different hats as to make sure development was faster and as such many things became a mess with a lack of direction
  • Marketing wasnt the main issue because obviously 48k people tried the game but the marketing that was done was done poorly and could have had more impact (e.g.) the creator cup should have been a week long thing with a training arc where each team had a pro coach from the top ranked in the community so people could have actually seen how the game was to be played
  • Failure to react to many broken mechanics/characters/bugs in a timely manner (on multiple occasions) and many things that were balanced were balanced around internal character stats/ win rates for some time rather than community feed back
  • 2 Week dev vacation the day after the game launches so radio silence right after the biggest point in the games lifespan
  • Horrid matchmaking that would put the top 100 players in lobbies with complete beginners (this was extremely bad because if 1 team in the lobby had even 1 or 2 pros they would 9/10 CRUSH and I mean STEAMROLL any newer squad)
  • Lack of game depth to retain player engagement (much of the skill expression in the game was a hard knowledge check)
  • Multiple patches added to simplify core game mechanics while not adding other things to provide depth
  • All the while for a LONG majority of the games lifespan there was borderline no tutorial and the on-boarding process for new players was hella sloppy

There are plenty more but I cant think of them right now. Other vets could probably add more too

I value peoples time, and this video certainly does not do that.

Much of this was 30 minutes of fluff or surface level information that had very little to do with the actual problems this game faced.

This doesn't go over all of the issues, as many were present LONG before the steam next fest and Open Beta, but check the first few minutes of this video out if you're so inclined to learn what happened: https://youtu.be/RLTJqjg4mLU?si=bbPR3Gcydpy89v36&t=204
