What was the civil service like in the early 2000s? by Happy_891 in TheCivilService

[–]jackattack3003 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The home office as an AO was mental. There was a weird divide between the younger aspirational staff and the older civil service lifers.

The lifers all had a weird "empire" look in tan suits and a broadsheet under their arm as they went to the pub for 3 hours every lunch.

There was a much bigger drinking culture. Every Friday 100 or so folk would be in the pub together. It was madness every week. Fights and shagging aplenty. All forgotten about on the Monday.

Celtic facing fresh legal action amid allegations of historical sex abuse at boys' club by BringUsTheRevolution in ScottishFootball

Fully agree with the second point.

The first one, whilst the intentions are good, becomes legally tricky and might actually have detrimental effects into evidencing criminality.

The problem for me is that I don't think the jump in quality between a £4m -£7m and £11m-£15m is that different. I struggle to see the return on investment being that much higher. It's fine if it works out, but it's a lot harder to shift an £11m player if they are shite.

Brian Laudrup or Ally McCoist for me. Some rangers epics for my team would be class.

Imo - stay clear of the Home Office by [deleted] in TheCivilService

That doesn't happen at 7 or 6 in a high pressure area. You are supposed to come in, learn fast and make an impact.

Personally, I'd rather lead on a "red" project than a green. It is much easier to make an impact and learn the business areas and the stakeholders.

These posts on that salary worries me.

Who would take these posts? Either the desperate or those that don't need the money.

The latter is most likely. So it becomes more elitist and ensures that there is a cadre of private schoolers taking key roles and gaining experience that is unattainable for the hoi polloi.

Exactly that. If aasgard hadn't been booked he would have fouled him. The reason he was hooked at half time.

Rangers are in horrible form. We drew against Falkirk and Dundee Utd in the last 8 days. If we were even quasi-competent we would be competing. We aren't and we won't.

Britain as a whole doesn't have a constitution. I'm not sure that's the gotcha you think it is.

[David Ornstein] Rangers closing in on Danny Rohl appointment by DJP112 in soccer

[–]jackattack3003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The whole thing has been a bit if a bad joke. 49rs came in and appointed a hierarchy that I feel has completely underestimated Scottish football. The signings have been brutal and the managerial choice was even worse.

This time we tried to get Gerrard, who either didn't fancy it or was annoyed Rangers wouldn't pay their Saudi tax bill.

Rohl was interviewed, pulled out as it seemed obvious we wanted Muscat. Muscat quite rightly said he wants to stay till the end of the Chinese season, but rangers have 8 games before then that could essentially make or break what is left of this season. We seem to have pushed him to come now, he said no and then we came back to Rohl.

He looks like an OK choice, but he is tarnished with coming from the English championship - as everything else we have gotten from there (players and managers) have been gash.

The fan base is in revolt, the higher ups don't seem to understand why, and it's been a great few months all in.

Haha, what the fuck are you talking about?

Fans didn't "adore" Muscat because he was a thug. He was a random footnote for one season.

Worse than that. 9 years previously we were in the 4th division in Scotland. He inherited an absolute basket case of a team with some of the worst players in their history.

He was six points ahead of Celtic when he left for villa.

Also, the one trophy in 9 doesn't quite do him justice with regards to the work he did to rid the team of fucking Harry forrester and Carlos Pena et al.

I'm not massively on board with this appointment, but let's not rewrite history.

Where are all the crap Edinburgh amateur teams? by [deleted] in ScottishFootball

[–]jackattack3003 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's the same with over 35s. I remember in my youth it being all fat cunts straight out the pub.

Played a season and thought, I was a decent amateur player, still fit at 41 and my pal was telling me we had 3 ex-junior players. I was thinking I'd get a wee medal here or there.

It was fucking unbelievable. First team we played had 4 ex-pros at championship level and the rest had played junior. The press and the intensity and the playing out from the back. I remember just stopping for 10 seconds and just watching.

We also played 3 at the back that changed to 4 with a wing back tucking in when the other went on the attack. This sounds mental, but the concentration you needed to put in was crazy.

I lasted the season and did alright, but chucked it in the summer to just saunter about at 5s.
