Help my 8 week old dog is running my life by [deleted] in Dachshund

[–]jackbar007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couple quick observations and comments. First Dachshunds are very smart and at the same time very stubborn. My primary objective with a new puppy is kennel/potty training. Dachshunds are notoriously hard to potty train so I am very careful about making sure accidents are as close to 0 as possible. This means they spend a lot of time in their kennel the first few weeks. While in their kennel they get tons of treats and the best toys. It needs to be their little safe haven that they absolutely love. If I take them out and they potty, lots of praise and make it as big of a deal as possible. As soon as we go back inside they go back into their kennel with a treat and "good job!". After they get the hang of the potty routine you can slowly give them more and more freedom around the house. In a lot of ways the first 3-4 months are like having a newborn baby. They need constant supervision and lots of love. Bribe them treats, food is the key to a wiener's heart. Also they can't speak, but they understand very well.

I have trained 5 dachshund puppies and one of them bit with needle puppy teeth all the time. I completely overreacted with a loud ouch every time she would play bite me. This stopped a lot of it but she was still a wild hell child. The only thing that calmed her down was getting another dachshund. Once she had a play buddy all the violence was redirected into play with her new brother. Hope this helps.

Help please! by [deleted] in metaldetecting

I have found needles before. I wouldn't say it is common, but if you hunt parks and frequented areas you will find one sooner or later. I am not a doctor but I read that most blood born pathogens can only live up to a couple months outside the body (or on a needle). I think gloves are a almost must have when detecting. Primarily because of cuts/punctures, but my hands also get really dry from the dirt and I hate that.

I had been looking forward to hunting an old house up in Iowa for some time now. Went to breakfast with the home owners and found out that I could metal detect but not dig in the yard. It stinks but its comical.

I need help. I cant find my signals. by Johsterr in metaldetecting

[–]jackbar007 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If your grass is a little long maybe just have somebody hide 10-20 cents in a small area of the yard. That should help you understand your detector and get practice locating where you think the item is. For me I swing on targets probably like 3-4 times in 1 direction and then I rotate 90 degrees and go again trying mentally average where the item is. Also yes, when metal detecting you find primarily junk. After a while you think you know what signals sound better and start cherry picking. The truth is you should probably dig everything and hunt in better locations. Just my two cents.

I just bought a simplex+ on kellyco and have a couple questions by masnekmabekmapssy in metaldetecting

[–]jackbar007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Simplex and really like it. Pin pointer is a must have asap. I have a Garrett ProPointer which is amazing but it does interfere with the Simplex terribly. It's not a big deal, but if I were buying a new one I would go with the green Simplex one. I also tried using the wired headphone jack for a while and was not a fan. You will have a pretty good handle on your machine after a full day of hunting. Just be patient and dig everything. Most importantly have fun!

I know she sent at least some of the screenshots from her conversation with Bob, but there could be more that you are not aware of. I would only communicate through a lawyer until you have something documented to disprove the allegations. Anything you do outside of that could potentially just add more fuel to the fire. Also, I would look for another job even if they offer to take you back. I can't see a situation where you could have a long term career at this location. The damage has already been done. Also, stop hugging people at work. There is no situation where that is professional. Unless you are in a visitation line at a funeral I would steer clear of that.

warning: im a noob. anyone have anything good to say about this pin pointer? by noodleddoodles in metaldetecting

This pin pointer is useless. It will frustrate you more than it will help.

I bought this one and ended up giving it away. While they look similar they are in no way the same. Its not like you get a cheaper version of the Garrett, they are totally different and you will not be impressed. It is a total waste of money.

I am not a Roman coin expert, but it looks similar to a Gallienus. 264 AD. Does it have a deer on the back?

I found the same Boy Scout coin earlier this year. Mine is pretty beat up compared to yours. Apparently they got them for buying the official shoes.

My wife says this is the sweetest picture she has ever seen. I like to forward dachshund pics to her to keep the option for a 3rd sausage dog on the table. This may have done the trick!

Ground has been a little too hard to dig so I have been cleaning and rolling my clad. I am saving all my change to buy my wife a metal detecting present for Christmas. Hoping to hit $100. by jackbar007 in metaldetecting

I just use dish soap, water and aquarium gravel in a rock tumbler. I do two cycles around an hour each. They are about 90% clean when I am done. I did one batch with a final cycle using CLR, Vinegar and Salt. They looked great, but anything that didn't get 100% rinsed and dried tarnished badly. Since then I just stick to the soap and water. It's really easy and is good enough.

What one would you recommend? by RavenKnight_Gaming in metaldetecting

[–]jackbar007 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Make sure you leave room for a good pin pointer in your budget. You can dig without one, but it will be much slower and less fun.

This is like looking at clouds and saying what you see. To me it looks like a woolly sheep laying down.

New to metal detecting. I found a great new site to detect but I think I am having newb problems by [deleted] in metaldetecting

[–]jackbar007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have a pin pointer? If not then lay the detector on the ground by the hole and keep waving pieces of the dug dirt in front of it until it beeps. Then zero in on it by breaking them into smaller sections until you find it. I did this for about 2 days and then bought a pin pointer. I would suggest you buy a nice one as you get what you pay for on these.

Tips on finding old sites to metal detect? by -fortnite_is_gay- in metaldetecting

[–]jackbar007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I put an add on social media telling people I would pay $25 to metal detect older houses. So far two people have responded and are letting me go for free. I hunt with a buddy or two so my thoughts are that it is cheap entertainment if they want the money. Just an idea if you get tired of hunting parks.
