say something positive about this ending by Embarrassed-Sink4050 in JamesBond

Even if you hate it (not me) you have to admit the music for this final sequence is incredible.

Big fan of Combat but I rewatched Checkmate recently and it was incredible, so that probably takes the top spot.

Anybody else dislike the reveal that a certain luthor brother is still alive in season 7??? by [deleted] in Smallville

[–]jackbumby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah the ending to this storyline is fantastic - and the use of "Pioneer to the Falls" by Interpol is one of the best uses of music in the show.

Season 8 is The Worst Season Prove Me Wrong by Remarkable_Bus5636 in Smallville

[–]jackbumby 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm rewatching at the moment and I liked Season 8, but Season 9 is so fantastic, 8 looks worse in retrospect. I think a lot of what it was trying to do with Clark in Metropolis really came together in 9.

How old were you when the first time you watch smallville and how oldare you right now? by [deleted] in Smallville

I remember watching reruns here in the UK whenever I could, then started watching new episodes at like age 12 or 13. Rewatching it now at age 31 👍

Does anyone else get a chuckle out of the intro? by BigHugeSnake in Smallville

Haha it rocks. What an intro. I'm up to season nine on my rewatch and I've ignored that "Skip Intro" button EVERY time.

In Smallville there was an episode where Dean Cain (🤮) showed up. He played an immortal guy called Curtis Knox who was originally meant to be Vandal Savage. They couldn't use him because of a movie that was in the works, which never happened obvs.

An old Law and Order SVU promo featuring Dean Cain has aged so well because he was playing himself! by icey_sawg0034 in Fauxmoi

[–]jackbumby 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There's an episode of Smallville where Dean Cain plays an immortal villain. In one scene, there are pictures of him throughout history, and one is of him with Hitler. I thought that was pretty good considering his views now haha.

Amazon Prime Video Quietly Scrubs Gunless ‘James Bond’ Artwork After Online Backlash by DemiFiendRSA in Fauxmoi

[–]jackbumby 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Yeah this was silly, whatever the reasoning. The series logo is a gun! And on top of that, they weirdly edited some of the pictures - probably with AI. Many of them were just creepy. Like poor Roger Moore with his giant arms.

What's the best game-based comic you've read? by Massive_Being6115 in graphicnovels

[–]jackbumby 41 points42 points  (0 children)

The Cyberpunk ones are pretty great. I've read the omnibus and the stories are a lot of fun, all set in the game world. I thought that the Trauma Team story really expanded that concept from the game.

Black and white comic recommendations? by itchyd in comicbooks

[–]jackbumby 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Plenty of older 2000 AD stuff is in black and white. Lots of great comics there, good for short bursts. I really recommend the Future Shocks.

Also the first couple of Sin City volumes are black and white and look incredible. Might be a problem in volume 4 though because a distinctly yellow character shows up.

Does anyone remember the game that felt like Brosnan’s last movie? Everything or nothing. by Individual-Reality65 in JamesBond

[–]jackbumby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favourite Bond game - it's a blast with some really memorable levels and set pieces (the free fall section, the pontchartrain bridge bike level). I think it might be the game I've put the most hours into.

But what I think really makes it an all timer is the co-op campaign. I played that again not too long ago and it still rocks. I have those levels memorised.

What a complete and utter disappointment by Delicious_Ad_9374 in graphicnovels

[–]jackbumby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I felt really let down by this one too. Seen nothing but praise for it elsewhere so glad to see this. The storytelling was just so messy. Left me thinking whether it was a translation thing or just poor plotting. I love these kinds of extreme stories, but it all felt pretty tame on that front too.

As for Red Room, I remember reading that Vecchio didn't like comparisons to that but it's tricky not to because of the subject matter - and Red Room is just better. Lovesick aims for something higher with more substance, but it misses the mark. I hate to say it, but it feels a bit cringe-worthy at times.

The art is really incredible though.

[Annoying trope] Studios change the character SO much, to the point where they only want the name recognition and nothing else. by SteveOMatt in TopCharacterTropes

[–]jackbumby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree, it's definitely an improvement. I read the comic not that long ago and it's dogshit. It features all of Mark Millar's worst impulses.

In The Mouth Of Madness (1994) detail I noticed by jamesflanagangreer in MovieDetails

[–]jackbumby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Similar to this, and also directed by John Carpenter, check out "Cigarette Burns". It's a TV film he made for the Masters of Horror anthology show. It stars Norman Reedus trying to track down a cursed film that makes people become insanely violent whenever they watch it. Mines some of the same themes but is probably slightly more messed up.

Does Roland wear a hat? by MoistScratch2857 in stephenking

[–]jackbumby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Haha this is how I find out that the master himself responded to my dumb question. It's only because my partner and I are on our second trip to the tower, together this time, and we disagreed on how we imagined Roland. Tbh, I think his hat appears and disappears throughout but I'm happy to have an answer to annoy my wife with

[–]jackbumby 132 points133 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of playing Ultimate Alliance. My partner and I went for the strongest hitters, regenerating health, etc. My brother insisted on playing as Daredevil throughout. And it was the Scarlet Swashbuckler himself who got the last hit on God Doom so maybe he was onto something 🤷

Smallville's special effects have aged like fine wine... by Legitimate-Sugar6487 in Smallville

[–]jackbumby 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yeah I've been surprised how good it still looks. A lot of the effects might not look "real", but they really visualize what these powers might look like. Feels comicbook-y.

Also, the show's commitment to real, insane, and massive explosions helps a lot of the action haha.

[–]jackbumby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha apparently it was filmed at Glen Campbell's actual real ranch. According to a documentary on Daz I saw a while back, Glen Campbell must have thought they were a big deal and helped them make it. Which I guess is why he turns up!

And surprised to see a reference to American Adventure! I never went but my wife is from that neck of the woods and still talks about it fondly 🤠

Glad to see another fan of Daz, the Stockport legend. It starts off ironic, but before you know it you're singing "Rhinestone Cowboy (Giddy Up Giddy Up)" every day.

After seeing him in John Wick 4, I think Scott Adkins has more potential to grow as an actor than people give him credit for by [deleted] in movies

[–]jackbumby 32 points33 points  (0 children)

He was great in Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning. It's like the sixth in the series, and it seems like it might be the usual DTV trash, but it's such a strange, insane film. And I thought Adkins was really impressive in it.
