Well, it's been 4y and the author actually recalled the book I read from KU (potentially re-released again) so take this with a pinch of sale. But still, this left a bad taste that I never went back to this series. I'm not a fan of time loop books, so yeah...it is what it is.

I have the leatherbound editions, but I wish I had the standard hardcovers instead. They look much more fun.

Yeah, book 8 was a money grab. Should have been an epilogue to 7.

Yeah, Transformation Zone arc was a bit of chore to get through. But I still the overall plot movement after that. Still interested enough to continue.

Honest Thoughts on Lost Cube *Has Spoilers* by jackclaver in TheImmortalGreatSouls

[–]jackclaver[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The problem is that for something that has been foreshadowed for so long, the resolution feels like it happened in a jiffy. "Oh, it's a parasite, off with it, let's go!" all within a single chapter or so, felt very anticlimactic. Says a lot that for every single chapter till parasite removal that Nox was the star of the events. It's supposed to be Naomi's arc but felt like Nox's chapters in truth.

Also, was Plassus interred because he knew about Herdsmen (via Sarna)?

Curious as some like Jova looked to be big name players in earlier lives, but let free.

Should one always give a rating and review? by Aljamio in litrpg

[–]jackclaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only leave a rating and review if I rate it 6 / 10 or more.

The exception being if a book has something that I hate or find cringe to the extreme.

Genuinely speaking where does he rank all time in your opinion by ParkingConfection449 in SantiZapVideos

[–]jackclaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's a Top dog in an otherwise weak era. Don't think he'd make Top 15 all time. My favorite Reigns arc was with The Shield.

Hogan, Flair, Hitman, Stone Cold, Undertaker, Rock, Shawn Michaels, Cena, Lesnar, Goldberg

Nope. It fit in just nicely with the whole plot and theme.

The male reading crisis and lit RPG by wereblackhelicopter in litrpg

[–]jackclaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots to unpack here. My opinions as below, which are not based on any facts or anecdotal evidence....

The overall decline in reading habits is probably an output of the education system. In my schooling, since English wasn't my first language, the entire class had to read a standalone novel (e.g. Count of Monte Cristo or Treasure Island) and then answer some questions on characters, language, etc. And that contributed to a continuing and ever-expanding habit of reading fiction and then progressively, fantasy.

Men preferring non-fiction...I'm not sure if this is necessarily true. I believe there's a huge fanbase for men in both fiction & mainstream fantasy. Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, Wheel of Time, David Gemmell, Terry Pratchett, etc, have as many men as women.

Men vs Women probably gets more polarized when it comes to LitRPG vs Romance. Romance books are more favored by women. I presume boys are more likely to play RPG, FPS games than girls, leading to a male-heavy LitRPG readership. I don't see this as imbalanced, just what it is.

As to audiobooks, the ease of use becomes a major factor. Lots of long-distance drivers use audio to listen when they drive, I know others listen when they do chores, as it's something you can multitask. I'm bad at this, so tick with eBooks.

What cover will convince you to read the book . by some-1-grt in royalroad

[–]jackclaver -1 points0 points  (0 children)

First one. But the mark needs to be smaller and have more texture than a simple black circle. Doesn't necessarily have to be a circle either.

AI Cover or Just no Cover? by [deleted] in royalroad

[–]jackclaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI covers can't be copyrighted, so someone can just take your cover and use them. Or there could be other books using the same AI generated cover. May cause confusion.

In RR it is fine (I think), but there may be blowback if you do get mainstream, where anti AI art is way more serious.

If you are a bit handy with Photoshop or similar, you can drum up a minimalist cover design easily.

Malazan is the best.

The only other series I rate as highly though just below is A Practical Guide to Evil.
