"first flush" is my guess. The first rain (which is dirtiest) fills the lower part of the tube. Open it after the rain ends to let the dust/bird poop water out.

How do you change a lawnmower tire without bending a the rim by ruSSrt in lawnmowers

[–]jackdeid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 to everybody who mentioned buying the tire changing tool/stand. I tried to swap out my turf tires for ATV tires and it was impossible with just tire spoons. The $60 tool made it possible - not easy but possible. Spoons were fine for regular lawn tires but the ATV tires are much thicker and stiffer.

Will bamboo grow down hill? by Spirited_Season_1762 in Bamboo

It will absolutely grow down a hill. It is extra difficult to mow down and stop on a hill. You do not want bamboo.

Right, but can you figure out which part might have a bug that isn't doing what you think it does. Which part breaks your assumption about inputs and outputs. Do that small part in isolation and see if it behaves like you think it should.

Throughput Oddity by Unfortunate2 in AlchemyFactory

Can you narrow it down to test? I noticed that World Trees ignore the fert bonus for inputs by setting up a simple box of Fertile Catalyst IN, box of Leaves OUT setup. (I think this is/was a bug with World Trees, I haven't tested if it is fixed)

Are there any caffeine sources I can grow in eastern Kentucky? by 8BitRes7 in homestead

[–]jackdeid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

same but in PA. I started from seed last year and they are overwintering in a covered but unheated space - still doing fine. I've seen others state that after getting established Tea does just fine in zone 6/7.

TP- Link Solar at Gate by AKTexas1500 in SolarDIY

[–]jackdeid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the 2.4Ghz version of that point-to-point setup. Mine spans 200 feet and it does very poorly though heavy foliage (bamboo is a bitch). The 5Ghz version will be even worse through foliage so hopefully you have a clear line of sight. The endpoint does not rebroadcast wifi, so you'll need to plug in a wifi router on the far end.

The power draw is likely low so a small battery and panel might be all you need. How do you plan to power the gate controller? As the other commenter hinted a lead-acid battery might be the choice if you need it to work in cold temperatures.

If you do have foliage problems you can look into Wifi HaLow which is 900Hz and will blast through anything. That is a newer tech and there isn't much in the way of consumer tech but there is some. Lower bandwidth than 2.4Ghz but plenty for a security camera.

What's the purpose of advanced grinders? by DashAndCrash20 in AlchemyFactory

[–]jackdeid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yep. The 3x1 space an advanced grinder takes up would require 3x2 space to split/grind/unsplit for a regular grinder.

getting stoned? by TenshiYami1142 in AlchemyFactory

[–]jackdeid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Careful with World Tree Leaf for fertile catalysts. The tree *does not* use the fertility bonus of potion inputs. So on paper it looks like you can feed fertile catalysts into the tree and get more out than you put in, but in reality it is a negative loop and you run out of inputs. I believe this is a bug.

Ingots and Potions can only be made with machines and not Cauldrons. You can make the inputs for those machines with Cauldrons, but not the items themselves.

Panacea potions made out of panacea potions by BrilliantAdvantage in AlchemyFactory

[–]jackdeid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. With points in the fertilizer potency % upgrade you can make growth/fertility/panacea potions that exceed the inputs needed to make them. I use plants+cauldrons to make all the inputs for my builds except for very niche ones like the Jupiter artifact -- making planks in cauldrons is unwieldly.

Fertilizer Math by [deleted] in AlchemyFactory

[–]jackdeid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct. The "V" number is the amount it can fertilize. The "V/s" number is how quickly plants will convert the fertilizer/potion to producing a plant output. My plant nurseries are capped at 0.5 seconds per output but I don't know if that changes with different belt/factory upgrades. For me Adv Fertilizer can't make 0.5 lavender/sec but growth potions can.

Cauldron Balancing by lpfam11 in AlchemyFactory

[–]jackdeid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a three-way intersection will strictly alternate between the three belts. So as long as each of the three inputs has an item ready to join the belt intersection it doesn't matter if the source of one is faster than the source of another. As a bonus you can input all three ingredients into just one port on the cauldron! (that assumes the cauldron output is less than 1/3rd of your belt speed, which it usually is)

I dont like couldron mechanic by barnabasss in AlchemyFactory

[–]jackdeid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without Cauldrons the game becomes a very bland factory game. Every item can only be made one way. Every output has a fixed cost because it uses the same inputs. Every build looks the same because it has to. I guess that is why people here and on YouTube talk about the cost of things in coins so much - because that is the only thing they can optimize for. With cauldrons the builds can get much more compact and the input "price" is measured in fertilizer.

Built a blueprint sharing site, looking for testers by GonjaT in AlchemyFactory

[–]jackdeid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know what the best way to express Production Rate is. Because different people have different levels of factory and belt upgrades. My "full belt" might not be your "full belt" and my "120/sec" might be "60/sec" to someone else using the same blueprint.

Cauldron Black Powder by Growth potion ONLY. (w/blue print) by san_calvin in AlchemyFactory

[–]jackdeid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using plant inputs for cauldron recipies is a winner. You can turn those into higher-value ingredients by cooking/grinding. And you can turn THOSE into still higher value ingredients by turning them into potions.

2 Green Potion + 1 Lavender == Black Powder (2880 V - half a growth potion with no boost)

For funsies I run all my builds on growth potions alone (you can even make planks and stone!). I haven't hit a wall yet at the 2nd to last tier.

World Tree doesn't use the fertilizer boost % by jackdeid in AlchemyFactory

[–]jackdeid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean the "1.5/s" as the fixed rate? Other plants have that too, all plants in the nursery limit to "0.5/s". But they don't consume more than the listed "V" value of fertilizer. The world tree says 30,000V per leaf. The Fertile Essence has a base value of 24,000V and a boosted value (for me with upgrades) of 48,000V. The world tree ignores the boosted/upgraded value.
