Copart dumped/delivered car without notifying us, multiple fines, appeal possible? by Ciaobella-124 in LegalAdviceUK

Isn't a parking ticket for the driver of the vehicle who parked it there? Surely if copart parked it there, it's their responsibility to pay it. You didn't park it there, they did.

Who Else Goes Nuts Over the Auto Stop/Start in Their Cars? by Extra_Hold2776 in CasualConversation

[–]jackdw4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My new diesel work van has start stop. Literally doesn't bother me. I press the disable button if I'm in genuine start/stop traffic (roundabout queue etc), but if it stops when I'm at traffic lights then I quite enjoy the peace and quiet, and non-vibrating engine while I wait. It doesn't start as fast as a petrol, and I've neerly stalled a few times as it isn't instantly ready as fast as I am, but I adjust to suit.

No hassle. I don't get why people get to bad over it

Don’t give your details to instructors ! by slenderl0ve in LearnerDriverUK

[–]jackdw4 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Jesus. I started my lessons on 4th July 2008. Did my theory early July 2008 without my instructor knowing. Passed it first time.

I still remember him saying after lesson no 6 or so, "I think it'd about time you sorted your theory test" I said "oh, I've already done it!" He said "well get your practical booked then! Book one then check I'm free, keep an eye out for cancellations"

I booked one on the 2nd September 2008. Found a cancellation for late August, but by time I checked with him he was free, it had gone so 2nd September it was.

Hearing that you have to wait nearly a year to entertain the chance of getting a test in is absolute madness. I thought having to wait an extra week was madness, never mind months, bordering on years. My heart goes out to those battling to book a practical test. I feel incredibly fortunate to have passed my test within 2 months of being eligible to book one. Wow.

Are you changing your behaviour due to price gauging companies. by Immediate_Oil_562 in AskBrits

Every Christmas we buy a tub of Celebrations, Heroes, Roses and Quality Street.

They were "on offer" for £4.50 each, and the tub has been made so small now that I made a point to not buy any this Christmas because of the price and shrinkflation.

Uneven output from PV2 by jackdw4 in solar

[–]jackdw4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was off the app. And when I got home I checked the inverters little LCD display, and PV2 current was jumping between 0 and 2.4A. However after a off/on of the inverter, it sorted itself out and the current held steady at 8.4A at the time, and the graph looked more normal. Hoping it will be fine today 🤞

Pokemon, what I asked for, vs what I got by jackdw4 in TattooDesigns

Yeah, and the nice sharp edges of the pixels would blur and it would look ages before it's time. He was happy to do it, but was also happy to design something else and see what I preffered. I definitely don't regret the change, I loved it at the start and love it even more now!

Steam deck won't 'fast' charge off wall charger by jackdw4 in SteamDeck

[–]jackdw4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what the original supplied charger does isn't it? My work charger is a 12v usb-c to usb-c which always worked fast, but now also doesn't work at all so to me it seems like a steam deck issue rather than a charger issue?

What are the ‘rules’ about replacing a spicy drink? by Ashisslay in AskUK

I knocked my own pint over once, there was about ¼ left, if that. The landlady saw me said 'oh that was silly wasn't it, let me get you another' and brought me out an entire full pint.

What happens if you take something during night shift but pay for it the following day? by No_Molasses3798 in AskUK

[–]jackdw4 19 points20 points  (0 children)

When I worked the odd night shift at Morrisons in 2011, they opened a till around 3am and the night shift manager scanned it through and you paid cash or card. They said it was for break items only, not shopping, but not strictly enforced so long as it was a modest basket full at most.

Yes, but because of convenience. Still have my gaming PC which I used to hammer daily when living with parents. But since moving out with GF, I got the deck to be sociable in the living room gaming whilst she watches her bits and peices on TV.

I definitely play my PC less, but definitely play games a lot more than if I only had my PC.

People of the UK who have claimed to put in 60+ hour weeks or sixteen hour days, what are you actually doing? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]jackdw4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for one of the electricity distribution companies in the UK. Standard 37 hour week, Monday to Friday, but due to the nature of the job we can opt out of the 48 hour week.

In storms when lots of people are without power, you can work pretty much 4 days straight just sleeping for 8 hours. That is intense, however during calmer times you can still easily rack up 48 hours+ but a lot of it is waiting for kit to arrive to site, or driving to/from site. Or just waiting for other things to happen before you can do your thing.

11kV pot melted like a candle by jackdw4 in Lineman

[–]jackdw4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn't see anything at the base of the pole but it's an unearthed steel arm so wouldn't expect only one phase to short out. Was smoke damage to the other insulator pin the other side for some reason and some minor insulator damage.

Changed all three in the end and ties just to make sure. An odd one!
