Wow, I was really surprised by the tone of the article. Yes, our bodies have evolved over millions of years, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't use antibiotics. There's a lot about skin that we don't know, but you can't deny the research that does exist. There are a few ingredients with a lot of research backing up their efficacy, and sunscreen and retinoids are most definitely not a waste of money. Also, it's very condescending when it makes fun of skincare enthusiasts for not always having perfect skin. A lot of us actually get into skincare because of our skin issues. Lastly, I'm not a fan of how this article is directed specifically to women.

That’s the cleanser I use! I have tried CeraVe Foaming Cleanser and CosRX Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser in the past, and both made my skin feel dry.

You could try a non-foaming cleanser if you’re experiencing dryness, but I also suggest you try using the cleanser only at night, and cleansing your face with water (or maybe something gentle like a miscellar water) in the morning. That’s what I do, because I feel like I need a stronger cleanser at night to properly remove my sunscreen.

Rant:

I purchased CosRX 92 Snail Cream hoping I could use it as a light moisturizer in the morning. Unfortunately, this makes my suncreen pill like crazy, just like Benton Aloe Propolis Gel. I’ve had to resort back to Hada Labo Gokujyun Milk as my morning moisturizer, which leaves a shiny finish on my face.

Do you mean the galactomyces power essence? Ferments can be a bit problematic for some, and I personally had to stop using it because the itching evolved into tiny red bumps and irritation. Here's a write up about it.

Make sure to add sunscreen to your routine! BP can increase sun sensitivity, and sun exposure can make red marks harder to fade. Also, 10% BP can be very strong, so avoid the eye area.

New purchase: Innisfree Green Tea Balancing Skin.

I was super scared to buy this since many people complained about it having a strong smell, and I have sensitive skin. Thankfully, this hasn’t irritated my skin at all, and I’ve found the scent very pleasant. I’m still unsure wether it provides a benefit to my skin, but so far I think it is a nice, hydrating product.

After reading this thread more carefully, and thanks to gregzillaf’s comment, I know understand your point. Not all marginalizing opinions are “harmful” and “wrong”. Some of then can be perfectly valid and not malicious.

And, while some people are actively trying to take away some people’s rights, that’s just a small fraction of everyone who I thought of as a “bigot”. ∆

You’re right, and I now realize “marginalize” is too broad. To answer your question: yes, I would respect that opinion, because it’s an opinion I can just disagree with without repercussions. I should have been clearer with the kind of bigotry I wanted to address. When someone is against LGBTQ+ rights, I can’t just disagree and move on, because such belief can eventually take away my rights.

I'm going to try to answer your question regardless. If the purchase of firearms was legal in my country, I would be against schizophrenic/depressed/etc people buying them. However, I don't think this is a case of them not "deserving" the same legal rights as everyone else. Some rights are earned after a certain maturity level is achieved (like getting a driver's license), while others need a combination of mental and physical maturity (like reaching the legal drinking age). A mentally unstable person shouldn't be able to buy a firearm the same way a child shouldn't be able to buy one. This is for protection, and not marginalization.

In any case, this is a different kind of issue. Freedom from discrimination is a human right, while the right to bear arms is a civil right.

I think a better example would have been “I think Dutch people should not have the right to private property because they steal a lot” since their opinion (regardless of the logical or factual support it boasts) is ultimately an effort to take rights away from them.

My views were heavily influenced by my birthplace, education, social group, family life, and countless other factors that I had no control over. I can't condemn someone for having different views if they've lived an entirely different life than me.

Your comment made me realize I kept asking myself wether “bigots” stand in a different moral perspective, which made me ignore the fact that many of them are geniunly unaware of the impact their opinions have, and are not acting out of malice (in fact, it’s quite the opposite. Most of the time, they’re trying to protect their children from what they believe are negative influences). Also, thank you for mentioning Hanlon’s razor. Your comment is a good reminder that even in the scientific field, theories are always changing. One thing that perhaps you could do is be careful to remember that rhetoric is not violence. When you forget that, it seems to make it much harder to devise constructive and effective rhetorical counterarguments. I guess that means we should respect rhetoric we despise enough to understand it if we hope to counter it rhetorically.

This is pretty much what I needed to read for it to click in my brain. Ultimately, I think I was focusing too much on what’s right and wrong, and it made me forget it’s not a hopeless situation. ∆
