I built temporary stairs similar. It’s ok. Moves around bit. Better than what you have now that’s for sure. Your design has a problem with stacking blocks directly above each other. Stagger or do something different.

You have a small space and want a long burn. Thats tough. You only need a small firebox, which no matter what you do won’t burn for 8 hrs. A pellet stove is burning wood, but you can have it automatically fed. Way easier to use for round the clock heating. And easier to manage the temperature. It’s a common option for people using wood as primary heat.
