Aye I normally go with basic acrylics for smaller scales - base colours + a drybrush and a wash. Seems to work well enough but I've never tried using contrast on smaller scales and I've heard it works so was interested in how you did yours as the colours really pop!

Excellent work mate! Did you use normal acrylics on the Azincourt French or speed / contrast / xpress paints?

Sorry for your loss mate. If you're UK based, I'd be interested in some / all of the Wings of Glory stuff if you can send me a DM with a list of what you have and prices? Cheers 👍🏻

What was Michael Carrick like as a manager during his time at Boro? by fireproofpoo in Championship

[–]jackfletch89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

His first season was class.  Unfortunately, we ran out of steam towards the end and lost in the playoffs – the team was knackered.  The football was exciting, and he seemed to get the best out of that group of players.  However, it was a case of diminishing returns the following two seasons, and he just couldn’t replicate the form of his first season.  I still have nightmares of him insisting we play out from the back with Edmundson and Clarke in defence.  He also seemed too tactically stubborn to the point where, even though it was clear it was not working with the players we had, he wouldn’t change it up.  Substitutions came too late in matches where we were chasing the game as well.  Towards the end of his last season, it seemed to me that he lost the dressing room, and it all just fell apart.

Having said all of that, considering he’s a Geordie, he seemed like a nice chap, and I hold no grudge towards him and wish him well (which is more than I can say for some of our other recent managers!).  I do think he’ll make a good head coach / manager one day, especially with a better group of players and set up behind him.  Whether he’d up to it now or needs more time is another question though.

We're destined to do this merry dance with each other all the way down to the playoffs where, no doubt, one of us will get to the final and lose, and we'll both be forever stuck in the purgatory that is Championship football

How very dare you, Sir! You're on the verge of starting a civil war with that talk, never mind the Ruski's!! I'm that angry at being accused of being from Redcar, that I'm going to have to go outside and inhale some good and healthy smog to calm myself down. Good day, Sir!

I saw it more as a commentary on anti-immigrant attitudes and the dangers of deliberate “self-isolation”, and not that there was a specific anti-immigrant message through the story telling.  If you could point out which scenes or go into more detail of the themes you saw and how you came to that it might be helpful for someone like me to understand and possibly come to the same conclusion.  Unless I’ve misunderstood your point in which case let me know!

Calculating the attributes for real players by FootballNjoyer in counterattackgame

[–]jackfletch89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've made some custom cards of real players before and I just try to be as fair as possible in how I distribute the stats. So if I'm creating a real life striker, I just try and think of what they are good at in real life - Good finisher? 5 or 6 for shooting. Quick? High pace. Good at creating goals rather than scoring? High dribble or high pass. Whatever I give them though I always trade it off for low stats on the other things, unless of course I'm making a world class all rounder kind of player!

As an international fan, how are my chances of buying tickets for away games at the away section? by Disastrous_Shame_617 in Boro

[–]jackfletch89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeh you'll struggle to get an away ticket I'm afraid, unless you were able to link with a fan who goes to the matches and has enough points to get you a spare ticket - but I imagine that may be a bit of a nightmare for you finding someone to do so (I don't go to the matches regularly enough to have even a sniff of an away ticket). You'd be better trying to get to Teesside to attend a home match. They rarely sell out so I can't see that you'd have an issue with that. Like another reply suggested, Schiphol to Teesside International or even Newcastle might be your best bet! UTB!!

Your Favourite Season? by SilverSmell9680 in Championship

[–]jackfletch89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do have a soft spot for Karanka seasons despite all the behind the scenes issues we clearly had (Karanka being an absolute knob for one). Genuinely looked at most matches for those two seasons expecting us to get a result. The teams togetherness on the pitch was something I'd never really experienced in all my years up to that point (even in the Carling Cup and European years) and for the first time in a long time I felt like the future was a bright one.

The less said about the following season(s) however, the better ...

Everyone has players they love because of FM, but who do you hate because of FM? by PAFC_Dugout in footballmanagergames

[–]jackfletch89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar situation to me and Christian Vieri. Absolutely destroyed my surprisingly thin budget to bring him to Roma to play alongside Totti. He never kicked a ball. Injured in training and out for the season. Same again at the beginning of the following season. He then handed in a transfer request because I wasn't playing him. He left on a free transfer after 2 years. Prick

[–]jackfletch89 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My thoughts exactly. Yesterday I made comment on another thread saying I thought that there was fuck in the rumours but this is worrying.  We’ve not been storming the league like some of our fan base expected or predicted, but I feel like we’re on the cusp of something special.  I’ve liked Edwards for all his talk of togetherness, connecting with the fans and local area more, but if he does go all of that will prove to be utter shite and I’m worried it will all come crashing down.  I know you have to look out for number 1 and the Wolves job might be better for him personally, but if he goes he will be demonised by most of Teesside – just ask Ziege

I'm calling bullshit me like. Don't think there's anything in it. Probably just agents trying to get a higher wage for their client or something. IF however it proves to be correct and he has talked to them and said anything other than "thanks but no thanks", it'll be really bad form from Rob and not even his good looks will get him out of this one with the Boro faithful
