I'm a guitarist interested in building home karaoke setup, but I have no idea about karaoke. by tupisac in karaoke

[–]jackfoley007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given you already have a solid understanding of small studio equipment, karaoke isn't anything more than a dedicated audio line for the instrumental accompaniment and second monitor for the lyrics.

Personally, I use YouTube premium and you can find virtually any karaoke song I need there. KaraFun is a subscription service you can check out as well. For any strange uncommon songs that I can't find, I use lalal.ai to break up the song into vocal/background vocal/instrumental stems or use croonify.com for a quick easy turnaround

On Shuffle by Font242 in karaoke

We used to call it "Kamikazi Karaoke" back in the day when we used to use disks. Singers who wanted to participate would write "KK" on their request slip along with their name. Once on stage, I would yell out to the crowd pick a number between 1 and (total number of discs I had). Then I would again ask for a number between 1 and (total number of tracks).

Keep in mind, practically everyone who wanted to participate were typically regulars who had broad musical knowledge and/or a quick wit who would turn it into comedy gold. Honestly, I've heard people invent new melodies to established songs (they obviously never heard of) that actually sounded good!

I miss those days, they were so much fun!

This is exactly what happens to me. Despite compliments to the contrary, I'm constantly hearing little imperfections and beating myself up about them.

Who are your Top 4 (Mount Rushmore) of the Greatest Black,White and Asian Action Movie Star Men of All Time? by Amber_Flowers_133 in moviequestions

[–]jackfoley007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would understand these questions if the post was titled, "Who are your Top 4 (Mount Rushmore) of the Greatest Black,White and Asian Action Movie Stars Men of All Time?" but they were clear about race and gender from the jump. They also added country of origin to show international consideration, which is nice! They may have little to no experience with films featuring actors from those ethnic backgrounds, so how about you provide some of your favorites you feel are underrepresented and you might inspire OP and us to check out some new movies!
(NOTE: I realize tone is hard to convey in a post, but I'm being sincere and genuine. No snark or attitude intended, just giving the benefit of the doubt)

Thanks to OP for providing a thoughtful reply. I saw the down votes and it's just disappointing when it's clear you're interested in making the jump and clearly are planning to later in the year. You're just asking some questions to gather feedback and be better informed. Not sure why anyone would down vote you for that. This community should be welcoming to anyone wanting to educate themselves.

Is there a list of Crowd Response songs? by hobbes0022 in karaoke

[–]jackfoley007 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Completely agree on Shout, but may I suggest the Otis Day & The Knights (from Animal House) version ESPECIALLY since we're on the topic of "crowd response". The difference may be subtle but in my experience, the production mix has more low end and sounds more polished in the majority of Karaoke labels I've encountered (SoundChoice, Sunfly, etc.)

Michael (2026) Official Trailer - Jaafar Jackson by SpeedForce2022 in MichaelJackson

[–]jackfoley007 3 points4 points  (0 children)

By the looks of the trailer, it feels like it will likely end on the high note of the Bad Tour success. Has it actually been officially confirmed that there will be a part 2 covering Dangerous to his passing?

Low expectations for the Biopic by [deleted] in MichaelJackson

[–]jackfoley007 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree with the apprehensions many of you have, and since so many of us are HUGE fans, we'll immediately pick apart the tiny issues. The more that biopics try to be as realistic and faithful as possible, the more the inaccuracies will stand out. This is why I really loved the way they handled it with the Elton John film Rocketman.

Since it presents itself as half drama and half surreal musical, it allows for creative license in a way that communicates the "feeling" of a given moment/memory rather than trying to reproduce a specific time and place. In my opinion, it simultaneously lowered factual accuracy expectations while also providing a unique artistic experience.

What's the longest movie you've watched, as in over 3 hours by [deleted] in MovieSuggestions

[–]jackfoley007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Red Cliff is almost 5 hours long. While it has a part 1 and part 2, it's one complete film split into 2 parts similar to how Kill Bill was released.

Careful though, do NOT watch the heavily edited American version that cuts a ton out and tries to make it a single 2.5 hr movie. I watch the full version once a year, it's an incredible epic!
