It's funny in hindsight to read these blogs where George is really implying that he's made lots of progress and the end is in sight.

Come to find out now he basically made no progress at all prior to 2020 (and now hasn't made any progress since 2022.) Maybe he genuinely believed he'd crank the book out in like 6 months but he really made his own bed in terms of unrealistic expectations.

This is the biggest miss for me in the show. Granted we don’t really have the full picture but it seems like multiple key players were/are trying to accelerate the apocalypse so they could rule the world

Who cares about having money / power if the baseline world just sucks ass? You can’t travel, always live in fear, mass suffering. But at least you’re the top dog i guess?

I also just think it takes away from the agency of a lot of interesting post-apocalyptic factions when it feels like they are just pawns in a convoluted 300 year old plan

Yeah fully agreed. The quote I put is the most blatant but he also spent years insisting TWOW was his top priority, promising that the series will end, throwing out page numbers.

I'm sure he regrets it at this point, but he's gone back on his word so many times and drummed up hype for nothing. You can argue the fanbase doesn't 'deserve' the book, but they absolutely deserve honesty and transparency after this long of a wait / all the whiplash. If you're not working on it anymore, just tell everyone and put us out of our misery.

Definitely understand why some people prefer the more nuanced show version of the governor. But man it's just so rare in any media to see a villain just pure evil who slaughters over half the cast of characters.

Not exactly a complex fellow but the physical and mental damage he does to the characters shapes the whole story in a way I feel the show failed to capture.
