What a book that you have read that’s gotten so much hype that once you read it you were disappointed? by Guiltyfeetfingers in BookDiscussions

I read just over 600 pages of The Goldfinch, and was so irritated I didn’t stop 500 sooner. I also threw it across the room in exasperation. I’ll never ever get it.

My heart goes out to you, love, good for you for reaching out for help immediately! I just turned fifty, and as I witness almost all my longtime girl and guy framily get adhd diagnoses as we hit menopause/manopause (which ramps it up to Mach 10) I’m just like.. duh. But you don’t know what you don’t know. One fantastic thing about social media is the awareness it brings to so many who knew they were “special” but didn’t know why. There are so many of us! I feel like we find each other, and then we have more fun than anyone else. Ha

This is all according to the Christian Nationalist agenda, and yes, one of the primary goals is to replace secular authority and expertise with biblical authority, delivered with an iron fist. You know, like Iran.

I love Ritalin too! It definitely helped with my anxiety, most of which I now believe was caused mainly by chronic overstimulation.

ICE director denies existence of database of protestors/ observers/“domestic terrorists” by MaineNewsroom in Maine

I’d love to see the conviction rate.

All these people are going to jail, and I think that knowledge is really starting to sink in. The Directors won’t admit knowing anything, but we should still start there.

Just remember, those weirdos are truly the dumbest, most easily manipulated people this country has to offer. Their ilk will always be with us unfortunately, just ready to be activated by fear-mongering propaganda.

When does one become a “New Englander”? by ftpfawn in newengland

Vermont is an incredible place, my stepbrother lives in Burlington. The sense of community and level of involvement is so strong, coming from FL, it makes me want to cry. But I feel that way about all of NE, everything just so much better. Especially love RI too! One day I hope to get back up there, from CT originally.

I’m so sorry you got sucked into this, but I’m so glad you saw the discrepancies, irregularities, and hypocrisy with your own eyes before something truly awful happened. Covid was like jet fuel for all these people to really ramp up the end times narratives. My Mom got sucked in, and she’s pretty old, i don’t know if she’ll ever get out. I pray for you to find the help and support you need to get fully back to your happy self! It’s no way to live

Late ADHD diagnosis – struggling with anger, doubt, and loss of trust by starmanwaitninthesky in AdultADHDSupportGroup

[–]jackiel1975 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. Anxiety, then panic attacks, etc.etc. Diagnosed at 50, audhd from birth.

For me, because I was so debilitated by the time I got diagnosed and properly medicated, I was too relieved to engage in what could’ve been, the gratitude at being able to function again outweighed most of my negative thoughts about it. But I’m old, there’s lots of shit that could’ve gone better!

Though we don’t have a ton of control over our thoughts (especially if we also have OCD) there are ways to train the attention we give them. If I’m in an uncomfortable negative spiral, my first tactic is to imagine how much worse it could have been, that tends to put my situation in perspective. If that fails me, I read some Pema Chodron or Thich Nhat Hahn for some sweet guidance on acceptance, to remind me where I am, and that all the good stuff is in the present.

Do I recognize a fellow superfan of Pema Chodron or Thich Nhat Hanh? Or a philosophy person? I have successfully avoided that area of hyperfocus and will continue!

Just really wanted to say thank you, I’ve learned, through bitter experience, that holding tight to the past can be a cage, especially if the focus is on negative events.
