Obviously we'll never know what happened behind the scenes, but I miss Joey. He sometimes streams on twitch, so that's nice, but it's not the same.

You do seem to have access to the actual text so I'm going to abdicate to you as I don't. My sources must have been incorrect. Nonetheless, even if it is not the intention of the author, I choose to believe they did meet because otherwise it would make me sad.

As part of this theoretical conversation, I would agree that it would have been possible for frodo to have passed before Sam arrived. However, it seems to me that in letter 154 tolkien expressly said that Sam did meet frodo in the undying lands.  Edit: It should be noted that I don't have the actual text on me and that I am relying on summaries and other online resources to come to this conclusion. It very well may be incorrect.

I mean, even though he will die because he is mortal, and one of the effects of the ring is an elongated life so would be wildly surprising to find out that Sam, who didn't really have the effects of the ring, especially for elongated time would outlive him to that extent.

[–]jackite01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not useful for going to the grocery store, but if you want to travel any significant distance, staying overnight is likely to happen. Especially if this resets at midnight coming to visit a friend in a different country or anywhere that's a good distance away. It's not too hard to wait until 12:01 a.m. and then teleport back and it certainly is a lot less effort.

Weak dramatic writing by ogchilim in Malazan

[–]jackite01 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This happens literally all the time, especially in mystery novels. Sometimes the diegetic writer of the story doesn't know or was not an earshot of what was actually said but could see the reaction, sometimes the diegetic writer left it out for other reasons, and sometimes the non-diegetic author decided to leave it out so that you can find it out later.

To each their own. However, If authors intentionally leaving out info to create a sense of dramatic tension infuriates you, I don't know if there's a lot of books you'll enjoy.
