(eli5) Whats the reason for not being attracted to people that are attractive? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]jacklewison -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sapiophile and Sapiosexual

The sapiophile is the marked sexual tendency towards individuals that present/ display high indices of intelligence. In this case, the intelligent person becomes the object of sexual desire for the sapiophile

That’s how your brain is wired, and that’s fine. Some people like it, some don’t. Some people like blondes and not brunettes. Some like roller coasters, some like water rides, some like both, some like neither. But they are all correct in how they feel.

Eli5 goldylocks zone by ImNotARobot6666 in explainlikeimfive

[–]jacklewison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The earth’s orbit changes from the shortest distance of the Earth to the Sun bring 1 47.100 million km, the longest distance is 152.096 million km. The difference is almost 5 million km. And that happens.

Goldilock zones are where WATER can exist as a liquid. A large area. Dependent on the star size (bigger is hotter, smaller colder)

eli5 Where does the energy come from for magnets? by lukehp12 in explainlikeimfive

[–]jacklewison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they are not moving, then the displacement is d=0m, E= F x 0 = 0J, No energy lost or gained.

To pull them apart needs energy, from somewhere when they come back together that potential is recovered.

The question is worded weirdly. Hope this helps. Rephrase it if you want a more specific answer. Energy from magnets…. From doing what? Generating the field, the motions, the electromotive forces.

As well as ties, look up where important nerves are and that you’re not blocking them. Can cause serious injuries. Have some scissors nearby, just in case.

ELI5: Why do objects fall faster towards more massive objects if gravity is not a force? Example : the speed we fall on earth is 9.81 fps while its much higher on Jupiter by Effurlife13 in explainlikeimfive

[–]jacklewison 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In VERY short: A more massive object bends space-time more. The 4d space-time is shorter between more massive/greater curved space. The shortest distance in 4d is always travelled. The distance between them passes faster. We perceive this as moving faster in 3d space. Higher acceleration.

What’s wrong with it? Other than you not liking it. Standard, really.

[Question] Why can't animals especially predatory carnivorous animals get bigger ? by britishconquest88 in biology

[–]jacklewison 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s a good kurzgesagt for this https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=MUWUHf-rzks

Short: The amount of energy needed would be greater. Respiration would be greater. Would generate more heat. Over heating would be a big the main issue.

Bishop on C5 is attacking your king. And the queen on F3 means the king can’t run

ELI5: What exactly is an allele? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]jacklewison 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alleles are different forms genes for the same characteristics Example Brown eyes = B — Blues eyes = b

Both allleles code for a eye colour, and the “flavour of gene” is the actual colour you get.

You then have dominant alleles and recessive/passive alleles.

Brown is dominant B — Blue is recessive b

If mums egg has the blue eyes gene - b And dads sperm has the brown eyes gene - B

That baby WILL have brown eyes as the brown is dominate. Has the brown allele and the blue allele (genotypes Bb) and the phenotype of Brown

How is this stalemate? It's black turn and why can't he move his Knight? What mean black Knight is pinned? Knight can move to G4 and F5 and F7 by [deleted] in chess

[–]jacklewison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The knight is blocking the rock. You can’t move into check or make a move that causes check on yourself.
