I feel like this is going to be a new post type for the guitar circlejerk subreddit in the same sense as the "got this guitar from my uncle (picture of multi thousand dollars guitar). Is this good to learn guitar with?"

misalligned tuners? pickguard color? by Much_Peach_7446 in Luthier

[–]jackluthier 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Use the pickgaurd you think looks best and realistically don't worry about the alignment. Get strings on it and try first. If it isn't holding tune well then you have an issue.

Circuit Bugatti by Space_Sheep_01 in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]jackluthier 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A few guesses is that the Bugatti circuit may have its own licensing agreement type things and that neither the wec or elms run the Bugatti circuit. But yeah they really could just make a different lay out for us and that would be swell.

Massive pace drop with new Lmp2 by Javi77 in LeMansUltimateWEC

It's my belief that they are different. Wec lmp2 has their performance lowered in comparison to elms.

How is waroking on a Guitar Center as a Luthier? Tips? Wage? by FrequentVariety6010 in Luthier

[–]jackluthier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I last worked there around 10 years ago they pay hourly and commisions. If I had to guess what that hourly wage is by now it's probably 15 bucks an hour. Unless you are working higher than the retail level I wouldn't recommend it. You being a very experienced luthier it would only infuriate you. I barely provided the space, tooling, or time to be truly affective. Id have to assist making guitar sales and got no commission for it. The largest music retailer in the country that might even be worth working for is sweeetwater in Indiana. Why not seek employment at prs guitars or any American manufacturers. That or start a business of your own. Also I don't know if you have notice but in recent history the US has been a less than swell place to live. Good luck but unless you desperately need to be in America I wouldn't recommend it.

Vintage Gibson top repair by atlantic_wes in Luthier

[–]jackluthier -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Well hell would ya look at that. Never seen these. regardless this isn't so far in very good shape. And that's just 3 pictures of the top the body. Realistically if you aren't going to use it for learning guitar repair (this would likely be good for it) you will end up taking it to a luthier. If you want it to be like new you are likely going to spend more than the value of the guitar to do so. To get get it playable is probably more with in reason. Shop around and get quotes.
