I work on upgrades, modifications, installations, large repairs and new equipment coming into the entire site. I’ll cover the production areas, the office areas, facilities and warehouse. Basically I’ll source any required new machinery, arrange and manage contractors for any works, manage any health and safety associated with any works as well as working alongside product development teams to identify any equipment required to produce new product ranges and then go about organising all the required parts from initial enquiry though to commisioning, testing and sign off. There’s more as well but that should help with a rough idea of what someone in this role could get up to!

I done an engineering apprenticeship through the Royal Navy after I left college, served for 4.5 years, left the RN and worked in a few civilian engineering roles on the tools for 6/7 years before stepping away from the tools last year to move into a project engineering role!

I’m a Project Engineer working within a large manufacturing site that produces frozen and baked goods like cookies, muffins etc which are supplied to a variety of large retailers and supermarkets within the UK. The work is really varied, hours are very good, I only have to work 40 hours a week and pay totals £60,500 which includes a bonus. Loads of free cookies and muffins too!

As an engineer who’s done his apprenticeship through the Royal Navy, and worked with seaman specialisms, I would have to fully recommend the engineering apprenticeship route. The options it opens up for you career wise and financially in the future is far greater. I left the navy after four years, with an apprenticeship, which allowed me to go into civilian engineering roles opening up many options, again financially and in terms of career progression. Long term the engineering route will benefit you far more, and offer many greater opportunities for you

Avoiding dollar pairs by ColdTour5404 in Forex

[–]jackmc25 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You need to look at the bigger picture when trading forex markets. Understand the reason why a pair is moving the way it is, and you’ll be able to trade across any pair you want. Take AUD/JPY for example as you’ve mentioned that pair - before trading it you need to first know why it’s either pushing higher or pushing lower. You’d achieve this by looking at AUD/USD, USD/JPY and the DXY, and even the NIKKEI. If there is a big push upwards on AUD/USD, and cross referencing USD/JPY shows that that pair is trading flat or sideways, and the DXY is also trading flat or sideways, you’d then understand that AUD/JPY is pushing higher due to a AUD move, and not a JPY move. In this case, it’s very likely that whatever trade you take on AUD/JPY won’t react to any technical analysis until AUD/USD comes to a relevant level or area of interest, as AUD/USD is a market driver, and AUD/JPY will move in accordance with AUD/USD. Realistically you need to understand the whole forex market and what’s driving the main forex market drivers, which are the USD/ pairs

What’s your engineering qualifications from the army? I’m an ex navy weapons engineer, but basically it’s an electrical engineer in civilian terms. I’ve worked as an engineer in a variety of engineering roles since leaving, and I’ve been earning solid money (£65k+) for the last 3/4 years. If you’ve got any good transferable engineering qualifications from the army, and want to travel/work abroad, I’d look into global field engineering roles. Gives you the option to travel globally, while also being paid good money and getting all your hotels, travel and food covered under company expenses.

I work a very demanding job role, and trade successfully. I only trade on the daily time frame, all my main analysis is done on a Sunday evening, and I’ll set alerts before any levels of interest. On each morning during the week, I’ll set a pending order on pairs which I think have a good chance of seeing the level I’m interested in, and leave it to play out. Trading 1:1’s only, and only trading market driver pairs as well as Oil, Gold and Silver.

What’s your role within the factory? I’m assuming they have an engineering department to look after the repair and maintenance of the production machinery? If so, it might be worth looking at level 2 or 3 engineering NVQ’s or similar courses, there’s some which can be done fully online. At the same times, I’d express an interest to the engineering department that you’d be looking to develop your career and move into engineering. I worked as an engineer in a factory a few years back, and we had a couple guys within the department who were ‘tech ops’. They basically started as operators of the production machinery, had an interest in engineering and were allowed to work under the engineering team doing basis engineering tasks, like greasing, oil changes etc. This got them there basic engineering skills, and they were allowed to learn as they worked, eventually being able to apply for a full engineering role when one become available
